I had this idea for a thread to gauge people's opinions and maybe provide some points for wider debate, as well as to hopefully allow more people to get involved in this area..

Basically the thinking is that you have one post in this thread and your 1 post has to be just one sentence summing up your views on climate change/agw.

If your post is more than one sentence, is anything other than a summing up of your views or if you make any more than one post into the thread then it will quickly disappear! So, lets give it a spin and see the range of views that exist on nw are!

Beyond this thread, we'll hopefully be able to spin off some separate threads based on the various discussion points that are likely to come out of the views posted.

Please also bear in mind that your posts will need to be within our code of conduct:

Climate change is happening but how much is man made and how much of this man made stuff has political spin?

Unlike many past climate changes todays alterations need the 'human component' to adequately describe why we are warming whilst in a recognised/predictable long term cooling cycle.

Climate changes naturally over time, it always has and it always will, but is augmented by what we choose to do with our environment...

Climate change is like one big pendulum, and whether natural or not, it will always swing back from whence it came.

Yet to be convinced, as doesn't science tell us that the overall warming and cooling occurs over centuries and man-made earth warming is certainly dubious in my book!

Climate has and always will change due to natural forcings, humans are currently adding extra (anthropogenic) forcings but there are question marks over how strong an effect those anthropogenic forcings are having.

While CO2 may have some effect on global temperatures, it has been made the scapegoat for a phenomenon about which we actually know surprisingly little, and this makes it very difficult for anyone to find the true culprit(s).

Something probably borne out of best intentions and motives but got quickly overtaken by politics and ideologies, and now the things which keep it 'afloat' are... politics, ideologies, fiddled statistics, personal egos and funding cheques and the sheer weight of everything (and that's an awful, awful lot!) now invested in it as a movement.

Base your views on tried, tested and shown atmosphere physics, be very suspicious of those who's views stem from their politics or those who seek to damage the reputations of scientists rather than test the science.

Climate change is like my mother-in-law. We know it exist but we dont know what to expect when or if it arrives, we just have to wait and see.

Warming has undoubtedly occurred and human activity may have played a part in accentuating a natural warming, but by what percentage ( if at all) is still very much open to question in my view.

Climate is always changing, it's not a static entity, how much of it is of our making remains to be seen but I suspect it will only ever really be accurately measured retrospectively, quite some time in the future.

Man has nothing to do with climate change, climate has changed before man was on this planet & it will change long after we have gone.

Climate changes naturally, but politicians and their mad scientist have conveniently used a natural phenomena to scare, gain revenue and to divide us all.

It does what it says on the can; the difficult bits are, how much has man influenced it, and even more difficult, what happens next, along with the possible required changes the world as a whole may have to make if the ‘what happens next’ is serious enough?

Climate change, another excuse for governments the world over to waste billions of dollars/pounds of taxpayers money cutting emmission levels which wont make the slightest bit of difference in the long term
