150 Years Ago Today, London Recorded A Higher Maximum Than During The Whole Of The Following Year...

4th October 1859 was a hot day

Greenwich: 81.0F

Camden Square: 80.9F

The highest maximum recorded for the whole of 1860

Greenwich: 76.5F (23rd May)

Camden Square: 76.1F (23rd May)

Yup, believe it was 29.4 DgC on 1st October 1985 at March in Cambridgeshire.

And, how hot would it have been, had that very-same airstream reached us in July instead of October??? :lol:

29.4C is approximately 13C over the average, but in summer there may be another 2C or so to add to that due to stronger surface heating and a hotter continent.

So, about 15C above normal- suggesting a maximum of between 36 and 38C. :lol:

Yup, believe it was 29.4 DgC on 1st October 1985 at March in Cambridgeshire.

I remember the first two weeks of Oct 85 very well as student walking around in tee shirts

The Boy cott Barclays re South Africa was in full swing

And here were the minima recorded that same month

Greenwich: 26.5F (24th)

Camden Square: 26.6F (24th)

8th October 1861 recorded a maximum of 75.6F at Greenwich, which was warmer than what was recorded for June, July and August 1860.

So both Octobers 1859 and 1861 recorded higher maxima than during the summer months of 1860
