Tropical Depression 08L

The eighth tropical cyclone of the 2009 Atlantic season has formed southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. 08L only has a limited period to intensify, as shear is expected to increase dramatically and waters cool on the northwest track caused by a weakness in the ridging to the north. The depression may become a tropical storm, but even this isn't certain. 08L is not expected to affect land.

The LLC of 08L has become elongated due to high shear. With the combination of dry air and cool sea temps added, 08L is not likely to become a tropical storm. Convection is patchy at best and probably will not sustain the depression in the near term. Shear may ease and waters warm in a few days time, though 08L is unlikely to last that long.

NHC have now terminated advisories on 08L as the remaining convection has completely decoupled from the elongated circulation. Regeneration is unlikely but cannot be ruled out as shear is expected to ease in a few days time. For now, it's bye bye 08L!
