What Is It?

While travelling acrosss the Dartford bridge yesterday at about 9am, we saw this strange, dark coloured, line in the sky....it was very defined and straight. Bit like a con trail, but much thicker and very dark grey.

Does anyone have any ideas what it was or how it occurred?

It's just a darker part of the cloud maybe a Arcus cloud/Shelf Cloud

It's an old contrail expanded (thickness) in the shadow of a higher-up contrail on a lower, fairly even cloud base.
