A repeat has come out about the last eurption at St Helens.

I don't read the blogs on here very often, but the one I did (maybe last month) was posted by Shetland Coastie. He was originator of the volcano thread, and I think, laterly, some people were abusing the topic, so he asked the mods to either delete it or close it?

I agree with you 100% Cookie. A huge loss to the forum, and its a shame that the minority ruined it for the majority. I don't blame Coastie one bit though for packing it in.

personally i enjoyed learning from the thread, and to be honest, i think SC should resurrect the thread and not let the minority spoil it for the majority (but thats just my opinion)

It's been a bit of a dull Summer with regards to volcanic activity, a few huffs and puffs here and there but nothing really of note except that Chaiten continues to erupt at a phenomenal rate. Hopefully we'll see some more activity soon.

The size of the dome previously impressive must be eye boggling by now and still no major collapse. If it does it make one hell of a bang.

Activity at Redoubt remains low although the Dome is unstable and could collapse producing pryoclastic flows, Mud flows and ash clouds that could cause a hazard to airlines.

Large eruption at Russian volcano Shiveluch

Activity of the volcano continues: a new viscous lava flow effuses at the lava dome. Ash explosions > 10 km (> 32,800 ft) ASL could occur at any time. The activity of the volcano could affect international and low-flying aircraft.

Seismic activity of the volcano decreased: only three explosive events occurred from 02:15 till 15:46 UTC on September 11. According to an interpretation of seismic signals, ash plumes rose up to 4.5-6.5 km (14,800-21,300 ft) ASL. No visual data about this events - the volcano obscures by clouds. According to satellite data, a thermal anomaly over the lava dome was registering on September 10-11

Interesting news from yellowstone. The uplift may have stopped.

If the uplift continued it could well be a question of when an eruption occurs. This could well be a pause or it could be sign that the caldera is going to subside in the coming years instead of rising.

Large eruption at Russian volcano Shiveluch

Does anyone who looks at this, or other threads in the forum have any idea what effect the plume set off by Shiveluch have on the northern hemisphere weather?

I only asked because I saw this photo on Spaceweather.com. It's a sunrise, not a sunset and it looks mighty red to me. Suggests lots of aerosols have already spread to Nebraska, but the date of the photo suggests they are not Shiveluch's aerosols. I know there were other eruptions during the summer, I assume the aerosols are from those

Hi TP, Seems the best place to get info on Chaitan is the blog here, interesting that within the piece it shows that it's still Red Alert down there, with that fact that it's come active after 9,000 years tends to suggest that it could be quite a large eruption, mainly due to the speed of growth of the dome.
