data for this year

an avarage wind speed of 98 mph and a pressure of 955 mb 17/1/09

One month I'll beat you cookie. Otherwise I'll have to cheat and use TM's data.

Well the wind has picked up considerably over the last couple of hours so it seems as if Bill II is on our doorstep  It'll be a very blustery day tomorrow, though I'm more focused on the risk of thunderstorms, or thundery showers. Dang, I used the word 'thundery' :)

Just when I thought it was safe to come back on the forum. Doh ! :)

really in the mood for some good winter storms, feeling really storm staved.

With the jet going south perhaps I stand a chance. Can't be as bad as last year surely. When is Bills evil twin arriving no sign as yet.

if i had the time, it woud be great if I could get the mex wind speed and gusts through out the winter, see how many days are over 40 mph, 60 mph, 80 mph etc

The line of showers over Yorkshire petty much opened the flood gates to the Low pressure, before the showers calm and cool, during the showers gusty winds and torrentioal rain, now light-moderate wind on and off, a definate improvemnt over bill which might as well been high pressure.

Well if you want nice sunny fresh days you'll want Bills evil twin. Storm certainly not and a complete none event so far.

Yes, Bill's evil twin produced only a trace of rain here and a max' gust of 39 mph. He/she might come up with something today in the form of heavy showers. Anyone living just north of Manchester is getting a serious soaking at the moment and there's plenty of shower development over Wales and the rest of north west England.

Well, Bill's evil twin has certainly come up with the goods here!

I have no measuring devices but can report black skies, howling winds and lashings of very heavy rain on and off all morning!

Oh, yes, really! :) Mind you, someone did once mention a "Bristol Channel effect" with regard to weather, so maybe that has something to do with it. Must be really localised....how far is Longlevens from NE Bristol? Can't be more than a few tens of miles, can it? :)

I must say I was surprisd that no-one else had reported anything. :)

Did I miss anything.

Thursday night was overall a normal breezy night, but earlier only lasting 10 seconds 2 severe gale force gusts came from a showery band.

Yesterday was the most interesting day this month and also the coolest august day for 2 years at 15.6c with some heavy showers one with hail and strong winds nothing notable.

Coolest night of the month at 8.6c too. :)

The only thing I missed from Bill's twin was all the heavy showers yesterday. I did record a max' gust of 46 mph around midday but that's nothing out of the ordinary even in summer. We did get a few showers but all of them were light and passed through quite quickly. 1.2mm of rain yesterday compared to about 10mm 15 miles further north.

Wow we are so used to windy unsettled weather in the summer that even yesterday's unseasonably strong gusts didnt bat an eyelid amongst some members, yesterday wasn't normal here or in the south unless garden objects including chairs flying around is normal :)
