Yes this is definitely something we're planning and have been doing some work on - no eta on it as yet as it's quite a major job but we're on the case!

Excellent. Thanks Paul.

I've noticed on occasions ( and today is one of them ) that the rainfall radar image appears to radiate out from a central point, rather like a child's drawing of the sun but more complex.

This does not appear on the much less detailed radar on the Met' Office site, only on the greater resolution of the NW radar, does anyone know the reason for this?

I think it's quite common on the shannon radar, which I know is a bit ropey at the best of times, but I'll endeavour to get some more information on the actual cause.

Yes, I have noticed it more frequently on the Shannon radar. Thanks Paul.

The NW radar is an excellent tool, no doubt about it. But is there any possibility of having a variable zoom rather than only either zoomed in or zoomed out? Would be quite useful.

If you hold Shift you can drag the zoom box to any size you like. B)

Strange. Can you see the zoom box in the first place? (Top left with the black and white dashed lines) All you should need to do is move it then enlarge it by holding shift and dragging the mouse. Then click zoom in.

Met-office are having some problems this afternoon with some files not arriving, I'll give them a nudge to see what's happening.

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
