56.54 Inches Of Rain......in One Month

The highest monthly rainfall total recorded in the UK was a whopping 56.54 inches at the weather station of Llyn Llydaw, Snowdon during October 1909.

Also during that month was an extremely wet spell in the SE from the 26th to 28th as a low pressure became slow moving as it pushed up from France and into the North Sea.

Here a few reports from stations in the far south who were badly affected

Tenterden: Extensive floods in the river valleys

Goudhurst Vicarage: The heaviest daily fall of the year, 2.95 inches

Folkestone: 30 yards of a concrete wall, 10 feet high and 8 inches thick, were thrown down by the rain.

Brighton: A record fall of rain, 3.15 inches measured on 26th

Robertsbridge: The heavy rain led to floods unequalled in living memory

Broadstone: All low lying country flooded

Tiverton: River Exe high and River Lowman in flood.

Camden Square: Rain fell continuously from 10.45am on 26th to 2.40am on 27th nearly 16 hours
