Here's one of mine, not the best shot in the world of Cinnabar Moth caterpillars (with added red soldier beetle).

Great shot James, especially love the composition http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

Last spider from me today, same one as above (have moved said image so not sure if it will still show or not?) just a tad sharper....

What a lovely thread, will contribute, searching now(80000+ images), maybe some time... :)

Fist one I found, please forgive me for being out of focus http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif post-4726-1222542474_thumb.jpg

I will scour and find some better ones over the next few days.

Regards,

Russ.

None of mine are that close-up as I have only a cheapy 3mB digital camera but within those limits, I'm quite pleased with these for the subject, if not the photos.

Grabbed a couple of (not very good) shots of this little monster, around 2 inches long.

Took me a while on Google to identify it as a Devil's Coach Horse Beetle. I can only recall seeing it once before here in Co Antrim, many years ago. Possibly more common in other parts of UK/Ireland?

Although it has no 'sting in its tail' it can give a painful bite with its strong pincer-like jaws. It also emits a foul smelling odour, as a defensive secretion, from a pair of white glands at the end of its abdomen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocypus_olens). YUCK!!

Bit of a late appearance from this beauty.

Red admiral. Quality isn't that good as I had to rush before the dogs scared it off.

I must say, I use my Macro almost exclusively for wild flowers, however as I prepared this shot of Pyramidal Orchid, along came a Small Skipper and here we are!

I wondered if anyone knew what this fella was? ;)

Here are a couple more nice photos, which in my naivety I shall call dragonflies. I know I am wrong. ;)

Hi simooshy great pics, I think your caterpillar is a Pale Tussock Moth and you're right they are dragonflies. The first one I think is a Common Darter and the second a Migrant Hawker, but I'm not too sure as I'm not very familiar with dragonflies.

That's great Louby, I can never get very good shots, I think I should save up for a lens.

Here's one of my butterfly ones.

My first attempt at some insect photography.

Large Red Damselfly, Pyrrhosoma nymphula (found out after research!)

post-7322-1243711695_thumb.jpg

Not the best photo in the world, taken with a relatively cheap camera (not one of those fancy SLR £400-for-another-lens cameras!))
