Hi - after looking in one of the sunday pepers they are trying to freak people out by saying a hurricane is heading for britain and will hit on thursday.

They are saying the remnants of hannah, personally i cant see how this can happen as the conditions around us are not good enough for hurricanes to form or breed.

Has anyone else heard this and could it be true or is it just another weather system set to hit us, see link below for the article.

It's a typically misleading headline from the Express aimed a causing needless concern and distress.

The Express is somewhat less reliable than The Beano when it comes to weather related news stories.

There will no no strong winds and rainfall will probably be less than we've experienced today. Just normal autumnal weather, albeit that the depression concerned will include moisture and air carried northwards in the remnants of Tropical Storm Hanna.

She was before she got stuck near the Bahamas.....

these sort of things make you chuckle. ok, so yesterday weather watches were in force over heavy and perhaps thundery rain for thursday. now though, its little more than a very light weather system, perhaps drizzle strength, and bags of sunshine. perhaps slightly farfetched, when we can only expect a weak weather system and light showers :pardon: .

well it dont look like a hurricane but looks like a nice band of weather heading over, but maybe the tropical water of scotland can turn it back to hurricane :pardon: after all, its been a red hot summer, lol

In the south the effects won't be any worse than today's moderate rain and wind event.

Further north it will get quite windy but nothing too extraordinary, gusts to 60 mph could develop late Wednesday in the usual exposed locations in western Ireland, Northern Ireland, western Scotland, and gusts to about 50 mph appear possible in the Channel and south coast.

The headline should perhaps read "Tropical Storm grazes Britain" and that happens a few times every autumn, no?

Or better still "typical, unexceptional, Atlantic depression grazes Britain"

We usually get far more serious hurricane remnants hit the UK.

Not a hurricane but from what i see on the charts there will be quite strong winds, nothing severe. Gusts 40-50mph seem reachable in Western Britain and of course Ireland.

Silly needless articles really. I think most of the public (hopefully) realise that hurricanes do not hit the UK, plus how much of this actually rings true? not much I'll bet!
