Interesting research where Tsunami's produce a pattern in the ionosphere about an hour before they appear, here.

This is the first empirical case where geological processes have been observed to affect the atmosphere - in advance

Have to say I felt nothing here at work at 8am

Never felt a thing here either and we were possibly the nearest town. Mind you, I was asleep at the time. :whistling:

Hi just wanted to know why there is so much activity around turkey today? There must be a reason but im new 2 this!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/2992311.stm

http://www.geography.learnontheinternet.co.uk/topics/turkey.html

http://www.absconsulting.com/resources/Catastrophe_Reports/izmit-Turkey-1999.pdf

The country sits between two huge tectonic plates, Eurasia and Africa/Arabia, which are inexorably grinding into one another, north to south.

hope this helps

John, your contributions are extremely valuable, but when you post a detailed list of specific events, it would be great if you could add a line saying where in the world they relate to and details like mag., depth, etc.: I can't always access the links to other sites so your insight is lost for me. Ta. CR.

Ta, CR

That's nasty, even though the nearest large town - Fergana - is at some distance.

It's beginning to look v. nasty. Reports are - obviously - very scarce, but indicate that the tremor went on for some time, damaging buildings far more than a short shock would have done.

Nothing as yet in Turkish press about any major quake in Turkey, so hopefully it's not as serious as might be thought.

Not so hopeful about the one in Kyrgystan, though.
