With Everest base camp now unusable anyone up on Everest atm has two choices, stay and run the risk of hypoxia and low food supplies, or risk the 4-day trek back down across the avalanche field in the hope the path to Lukla is still passable. India has already sent 2 C-130s to co-ordinate rescue efforts, hopefully with Kathmandu ATC down the USAF will send over a AWACS to provide assistance with airspace operations.

Doesn't look promising: The quake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, with some reports saying eight people had been killed - but the Nepalese home ministry could only confirm that two people had died on Everest. Others remain missing.

"Running for life from my tent. Unhurt. Many many people up the mountain," tweeted mountaineer Alex Gavan.

A large earthquake in Kathmandu has triggered an avalance on Mount Everest, killing ten people at base camp.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/mounteverest/11562896/Everest-hit-by-avalanche-after-Nepal-earthquake.html

In Everest Base Camp, on the south side of the mountain, a massive ice avalanche coming off of Pumori (23,494 feet), which faces Everest, sent ice and other debri through tents, killing and injuring climbers. According to reports from the mountain, at least 15 people are in critical condition. Meanwhile the BBC is reporting that at least eight people in Base Camp have died. Climbers who were on the route or in Camps I and II have checked in reporting that they are safe but stranded. The route through the Khumbu Icefall has been destroyed and no helicopter flights were able to make the trip up the valley after the quake due to weather.

'The Hindu' has excellent press coverage of the disaster.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/international/17-killed-61-injured-as-avalanche-sweeps-everest-base-camp/article7143219.ece

very poignant quote:-

Gordon Janow, the director of programmes for the Washington-based guiding outfit Alpine Ascents International, said from Seattle that his team had come through the avalanche unscathed. Their first goal was to deal with the devastation at base camp, he said, and they would then try to create new routes to help climbers stuck above the treacherous Khumbu Icefall. The icefall, which is just above base camp, is a key route up the lower part of Everest.

“Everybody’s pretty much in rescue mode, but this is different from some independent climbing accident where people can be rescued and taken somewhere else,†Mr. Janow said. “I don’t know where somewhere else is.â€

22 Dead on Everest: "We have confirmed reports of 22 deaths and 62 injured," "There are over 200 missing. But there is no confirmation on how many could buried under snow in the avalanche or making their way back down on their own," informed tourism ministry spokesperson Mohan Krishna Sapkota said. Study concludes landslide caused land mass to rise from sea in eastern Hokkaido.
The planet is on the move.

A massive sudden (1 day) rise of land from the sea has occurred along the coast of Hokkaido Japan.
Major global earthquake activity is taking place, and serious crustal movement is obviously underway in the region around North Japan.
The new land began rising from the sea yesterday morning (April 24, 2015) with just a 1 meter rise (3 feet), then began rising rapidly, the event is still ongoing as of April 25th into 26th 2015.
The new land mass has now risen over 300 meters high (near 1,000 feet), and near 10 meters wide (30 feet)! Not ‘small’ by any means, and a very rare occurrence to top it off.
This is being attributed to crustal movement in the area.

A message from one of many Sherpa friends i have. This from Ac Sherpa.

On April 25, an earthquake registering 7.8 ravaged Nepal. As we write this,
aftershocks are still being felt and will be for the coming weeks. Many historic
buildings, homes and beautiful sights were leveled to the ground. Over 4,600
people are reported dead as of April 28th and that number is expected to
grow to over 10,000. Over 1.5 Million people have been eff ected.
The lives cannot be replaced, but much can be done when we all come
together. We are humbled by how many of you have come to us and asked
how you can help. Rebuilding from this tragedy, and helping the aff ected
people will be a long process. You can help by donating now.

Also from Tendi Sherpa.

Reporting from north side Everest. We have spent 3 nights at 6400m (ABC). We are all safe in north side (my team and other teams) but due to the strong Earth Quake lot of changes has occurred at North side of Everest specially the north cole and since the earth quake is suppose to continue next seven days maybe there will be a lot more change and highly risky due to avalanches and rock falls.
Chinese government announced and call all climbers to come down to BCfrom higher camps and so did we and still many are coming down to bc today from advance BC.

The Tibet mountaineering association officers are arriving at Everest base camp of north side this afternoon and they will suggest us what we should do next.

Few teams are already thinking to quit the expedition but have not confirmed report on it.
Tibet mountaineering association has been working on altitude for fixing route and the route has already made it to the 8300m which is the last camp of Everest North Side.

We are all so sad about the tragic accident on south side Everest and all over Nepal.

Regards,
Tendi Sherpa

Emergency workers in Nepal continue to face challenges after the devastating earthquake.

Their priority is to reach the country's remote, mountainous villages, feared to have been wiped off the map.

South Asia Correspondent Justin Rowlatt is the first reporter to visit what is thought to be the worst-affected village, Langtang.

Shouldn't be as deadly however as it was not only weaker, but shallower.

Reports from Kathmandu dosent sound as serious.

I think you mean deeper but even so a very significant quake given how weak all the structures and geology must now be
