Hey,

Not looking good so far, different depths been reported though so I think we will have to wait for some confirmation. Hopefully there isn't much damage caused by this, its the last thing the people of Japan need now! http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif

Dan

you may be right re the differences in the depths

it looks according to the link here that it lasted a

little while and with variable depths

tsunami warnings can take a little while so although it

says all is ok it can change as more info comes in

A very small quake, 2.7 on the richter scale. Wouldn't of even been noticeable.

it would be a pointless thread if we just reported on plates moving

hence the title "Earthquake activity thread" :whistling:

must have been a surprise for you Matt

lets hope all is fine (sure it will be)

Yeah, I was just commenting how amazing it is to see many minor earthquakes each day, due to the plates moving under our very feet.

I feel we are very lucky to live in a country that is not on any kind of fault line or plate boundary.

hello backtrack

i agree with you we get about 300 quakes in the uk each year

thankfully they are either small or very deep.

however we do have fault lines here

http://www.esri.com/news/arcwatch/0210/graphics/investigating1-lg.jpg

thankfully we are not on a main fault line

i am sure however that the 3.3 in devon was noticed..

Strange its not made the local news yet, we have a crack on the chimney, about 2 foot long but aside from that I can't see any damage.

Oh right, didn't think there were even any minor fault lines in the UK!

Thank God it's nothing like the San Andreas fault.

There's a fault line in the North Sea running down into places like Germany that can produce fairly sizeable (for the UK at least) earthquakes. The M6.1 earthquake on Dogger Bank in 1931 was caused by that fault. Just a mercy it's a fair distance offshore.

http://www.isthisthingon.org/Yellowstone/daythumbs.php

i will point out i am not a scaremonger and only post these

charts on yellowstone because of the activity showing here.

I have watched thes for ages now and have not seen

Madison River , Upper Falls and Josephs coat look so lively.

The odd one is Mary Lake as that has not activity showing at all.

Is it possible some sort of pressure is building there?

I cannot answer that but interesting none the less.
