I believe that Burma Has just suffered two Mag 7 earthquakes

Unfortunately so:

North-east Burma has been rocked by two 7.0 magnitude earthquakes, close to the borders with Laos and Thailand, the US Geological Survey has reported. They struck seconds apart at 1355 GMT and were centred about 70 miles (110 km) from the northern Thai city of Chiang Rai, the agency said. The first quake was shallow, at a depth of 6.2 miles (10km), while the second was much deeper at 142.5 miles (230km). Tremors could be felt as far away as Bangkok and Hanoi.

Rangoon, BURMA — A strong earthquake struck northeastern Burma on Thursday night, shaking buildings as far away as Bangkok. No tsunami was generated. The quake struck along Burma's borders with Thailand and Laos, about 70 miles (110 kilometres) from Chiang Rai. The northern Thai city sustained a little damage, according to Thai television. The 6.8-magnitude quake was just six miles (10 kilometres) deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. At that strength and depth, the monitor said 600,000 people got shaking anywhere from strong to violent and that the buildings are considered vulnerable so moderate to very heavy damage is expected in homes.

Buildings swayed in Bangkok, about 480 miles (770 kilometres) south of the epicenter. Max Jones, an Australian resident of the Thai capital, was in his 27th-floor apartment when his building started swaying so hard he had to grab the walls to keep from falling. "It was bloody scary, I can tell you?" he asked. Jones said he could smoke rising from nearby buildings and people running in the streets. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says it was located too far inland to create a destructive wave.

YANGON, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Following a magnitude-7.0 quake which hit northeast Myanmar on Thursday night, increasing casualties and damages have been reported in the country and neighboring countries.

The quake, measured 7.0 on the Richter scale according to the U. S. Geological Survey, jolted Loimwe, 56 kilometers southeast of Kengtung in northeastern Myanmar at 1369 GMT Thursday, with its epicenter 10 km deep in the hills bordering Thailand and Laos.

The quake triggered landslides and collapsed buildings in Myanmar's northeastern Tachileik and Tarpin, Shan states, which has left more than 50 people dead and over 90 others injured. Myanmar's state TV report said Friday that 244 houses, 14 monasteries and nine government agencies' buildings have been destroyed. Relief measures are being taken as rescue teams are rushing to the stricken areas, the report added.

In Thailand, a 55-year-old woman was killed in the quake in northern Chiang Rai province. The quake was also felt in Thai capital Bangkok, a city some 772 km away from the epicenter, with buildings there seen shaking and swaying. Some 60 aftershocks have been recorded in northern Chiangmai province since the deadly earthquake, according to Thai Meteorological Department's Seismological Bureau. An officer from Seismological Bureau disclosed that the quake in Myanmar was followed by 56 aftershocks below 5.0 magnitude as well as six aftershocks over 5.0 magnitude.

The aftershocks are expected to continue for a week with different magnitudes ranging from 3.0 to 5.0, but no greater than 6.0 magnitude quake is expected, the seismological bureau said. According to Vietnam News Agency, buildings in Hanoi shook when the earthquake happened, which caused panic among residents of apartment blocks.

A total of 41 people have so far been killed with 48 injured in a strong quake that struck Myanmar' s northeastern Shan state Thursday night, the state TV reported in a breaking news Friday. A total of 244 houses, 14 monasteries and 9 government department buildings were destroyed, the report said. Relief measures are being taken by the state with rescue team rushing to the scene, the report added.

A strong earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale jolted Loimwe, 56 kilometers southeast of Kengtung in northeastern Myanmar on Thursday night at 20:29:30 hours local time (13:69 GMT). The quake's epicenter was about 10 kilometers underground and in the hills of Myanmar bordering Thailand and Laos. The quake was followed by six after-shocks until Friday morning.

Do any of you know if there been any change in the number or location distribution of larger magnitude earthquakes in the past year or so? There seems to be more to me, but that's just an impression, no science.

A "MEGATHRUST" earthquake threatens to devastate poorly prepared cities along the northwest coast of America, scientists have warned.

They predict that the 680-mile Cascadia fault line is "overdue" for a major earthquake. A rupture along the fault line, which lies only 50 miles offshore, could also trigger a tsunami that would inundate the Oregon, Vancouver and Seattle coastal areas within 15 to 30 minutes.

As far as I'm aware that area is well overdue for a large earthquake.

It weird looking at the loyalty islands tremors.... at the start of 2011 we would have viewed a 7.1 as a major event anywhere in the world, oh how our perception has changed since.

It may well be that the 7.1 is the release for the area and that what is happening is the aftershocks normally associated with a big quake.

Still very active with 8 tremors at or over 5 in the last few hours all at about 40km depth. They all appear to be in a deep channel/trench when you view the satelite image. Makes you wonder if a tusami was generated in this area where it would have most impact?

Mag 5.3 at Lorca in Spain - not strong, but has still caused injuries and fatalities.

Looks like a double:

Two earthquakes that struck in quick succession have killed at least eight people in southern Spain and damaged large swaths of the historic city of Lorca. Eight people including one child perished in the deadliest tremors to hit Spain in more than five decades. Another 167 were injured including three in grave condition in hospital, health officials reported. The quake collapsed the fronts of buildings and ripped open walls. Streets were littered with crumbled buildings, chunks of masonry, fallen terraces and crumpled cars. A church clocktower tumbled and smashed into pieces, narrowly missing a television reporter as he conducted an interview on Spanish public broadcaster TVE. A bronze bell lay in the rubble. Fearful residents including families with children gathered outside with blankets as night fell. About 10,000 people were evacuated from the cordoned-off city-centre.

In an outdoor basketball court and children's playground, dozens of people spent the night on the ground wrapped in blankets. One group of four evacuees sat on fold-up chairs in the early hours, unable to sleep. As they escaped their damaged building they had seen the corpses of three people outside killed by falling bricks. "I was scared to death," said one elderly woman who declined to give her name. The stronger tremor, which did most of the damage, struck at 6:47pm (1647 GMT) with a depth of six miles and could be felt as far away as the capital Madrid. It hit nearly two hours after a smaller 4.4-magnitude quake.

Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero sent military emergency units to the region after being told of the disaster. The damage was concentrated in the towns of Lorca and Totana, which lie in one of the most active seismic zones of the Iberian peninsula, but also spread as far as Albacete and Velez-Rubio in Almeria, the premier's office said.. A total 225 emergency military units deployed to the quake zone along with another 400 safety workers including rescuers with search dogs, the interior ministry said. Police also sent in two specialized trucks with floodlights and three helicopters including a Superpuma, the ministry said. The Red Cross moved in 24 ambulances and set up three field hospitals.

A total of 350 ambulances transferred 400 patients out of two of the town's hospitals, the regional government said. Residents described confusion in the town of 92,700 inhabitants about 45 miles southeast of Murcia. Lorca traces its history back more than 2,000 years and boasts many medieval monuments. Cristina Selva, 32, said she was playing with her two two-year-old daughters. "The building moved and I was was very scared for the girls. I took them and the three of us got under the table to wait for it to pass," she told El Pais. "It was the longest 20 seconds of my life." Francisco Martinez, 61, was watching television on the fourth floor when the building shook and he fled with his sister. "We don't know what the damage is because we cannot get in," he said as he spent the night sitting down outside.

It was the deadliest earthquake in Spain since April 19, 1956 when a tremor wrecked buildings and killed 11 people in Albolote, a town in the southern Spanish province of Granada.
