Sky turned black as night here in Kingston upon Thames around 20 minutes ago, heavy rain followed by a lashing of even heavier hailstones, coupled with strong winds, generally making for a very unpleasant half an hour. Brief thunder and lightning too, but now the sky is back to normal, and the storm has continued its progress east almost as quickly as it arrived, though light drizzle persists.

heavy rain, thunder and lightning here in SE London

Just witnessed that one from the HSBC building in Canary Wharf. Very dark and ominous, lashing rain, hail, several flashes of lightning and cracks of thunder. Interesting to see the light-sensitive street lights going on in the city it was that dark.

ffO.

Hi,

Just had a couple of loud rumbles and then a huge blue flash went across the sky, was not expecting that.

Same here. Came out of supermarket and temperature had dropped, winds picked up and driving rain. Rain got heavier and then we had 3 claps and some lightning. One extremely bright bolt out the back immediatley followd by a loud clap.

Seems to be coming in waves. Rain eases, then torrential again etc etc

Making for an interesting evening at the moment. Is it the front passing through? (Says the novice to the experts! lol)

Torrential rain here south of Bristol with very strong winds. I think there's some hail mixed in but I'm not going out to check. I'm waiting for the thunder, none heard just yet.

Lashing it down here with squally winds. Had a bright, blue flash of lightning and a couple rumbles of thunder. 4mm of rain from this shower alone.

Seeing any lightning Michael? Had 4 flashes in the last 5 minutes, loud rumbles of thunder.

Just had a tremendous hail/rain shower, torrential rain falling horizontally and very squally winds - no lightning seen yet though

That's surprising, the thundery activity must be very localised then. Rain continuing here, thunder and lightning ceased.

"sniff, sniff", nevermind, the rain was so heavy no light could pass through it , Easing off now, but some more on the way looking at that radar

OMG :o

That was the heaviest hail/rain shower I have ever seen. Only lasted about 5 minutes, but......

I could hear it on the roof and I'm downstairs!

I've seen rivers down our road before, but nothing like that. It was dead calm before it happened and then it was like we were in the middle of a hurricane - very squally winds. There are drifts of hailstones about 6" high!

Ha, just seen the opposite neighbour come back from walking his dog. You can imagine waht he looks like :D

Heard a couple of rumbles of thunder too.
