Just spent the week down there, and was amazed to here about it, guess I'm a little too young to have heard of it. There's no escaping its significance locally though. Every bridge has been rebuilt & contains a plaque, also a very good visitors' centre in the middle of town.

A 1950's Boscastle you could say.

Hope you find it interesting.

In second hand book shops it's always worth keeping an eye out for Eric Delderfield's book about the floods that was published not too long after the event. A very interesting read, and is interesting to compare with the reports about Boscastle.

Lynmouth is certainly a beautiful place. It has recovered so well after the terrible disaster, but there are still signs of it around- whether it be the survivor's tales or the information centre and plaques. The event will never be forgotten but Lynmouth has really done well to recover like it has from such an event, it's a lovely coastal village with a great atmosphere.

We spent a weekend holiday at Lynton and Lynmouth in February of this year. We stayed in a beautiful B and B by the riverside. The owner of the B and B was saying that a few of the older local people are convinced that the 1950's flood was caused by the MOD in Sailsbury peppering the clouds. He was saying that they could not prove anything of course and they would have to wait another 50 years to read the MOD file concerning the flood. This is because if it came to light that the MOD were actually responsible for the flooding they would not have to pay compensation after 100 years has passed.

Hmmmm ... makes you think !

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
