Noctilucent Clouds

Just curious if you camera has auto focus there kar? If so, use manual focus set to infinity. Auto focus is a pain at night time for landscape. May have added to the problem?

The camera was a old basic compact digital and I was fumbling about in the dark with it after a couple of sherberts!

I knew it was struggling to focus but couldn't work out how to correct it.

Not 100% sure but think a display may be in progress now. I have mixed cloud cover but will post some pix and check out other web sightings.

Can anyone with a clear view to the north horizon confirm?

The above is due north so looks far too bright to be just lingering twilight. It's a shame I can't see what very much looks like vivid NLC clouds as per last night.

There were indeed numerous sightings last night in the UK and Europe/Russia.

Not sure... I haven't heard of any sighting tonight over eastern europe which is usually a good indicator as their sunset is a few hours before ours. These clouds are on the edge of space so even if they are visible way over on the continent we may well be able to see them here.

Look to the NNW/North/NNE horizon anytime after sunset. If you're not lucky tonight the season lasts for another few weeks yet.

An hour or two after sunset or the same just before dawn when the sun is not that low below the horizon. A week or so around the Summer Solstice it's possible to see them all night long.

In a few weeks time the nights will start to get longer and only sightings low on the horizon, or at higher latitudes will be possible.

An excellant NLC season this year with bright displays visible on numerous evenings recently.

Despite drifting cloud I caught a glimpse earlier of a few filaments and checked out to see if sightings had been observed elsewhere.
