Hi all, just looking for a little bit of clarity. Daily I check the sunspot activity on www.spaceweather.com but have recently come across www.landscheidt.info and found the on both websites (regard to daily sunspot count) differs. Is there a reason for this and which website should I side with in the future?

Cheers.

http://www.landscheidt.info/?q=node/50 It tells you on that page. One method is the Layman's count. Space weather counts every singe spec (silly IMO but there you go)

Indeed! There is a tiny sunspot today so hopefully we may squeeze another spotless day before the year is over.

The solar flux remain very low as per previous days: 74

yes even spaceweather.com has called today spotless whereas over on the sunspot count we are on day 21 of the present spotless run. However you look at it the sun is going to sleep

Indeed it's gone blank again, 32 day's spotless 8% spotless for the year.

Love http://landscheidt.info/?q=node/50  Website, great that he is counting sun spots like they used to do. 22 continuous spotless day's going by the old method & cycle24 very much mirroring cycle5 the Dalton minima. Lets hope Jan 2017 can be one to remember.

Yes, we are doing very well in terms of the quiet sun.

I think other factors are overiding the quiet sun this year sadly (maybe the westerly QBO the most important) but it is only a matter of time now till we get a cold winter.

There's a new Spotless Days section on the SIDC website:

http://sidc.be/silso/spotless

The charts look a lot like those on the Solaemon website, which is not surprising as the guy who runs it now works for SIDC.

Re: the low solar activity mentioned above. As has been stated by others above, geomagnetic activity remains (relatively) high as it lags the cycle.

So if there's anything to these solar-climate links, some patience might be required yet.

Can't even see it!!

the interesting fact is that after each off the last spotless days on spaceweather it is ended by a spot of 11 on the very edge of the solar disc. Its almost as if they don't want spotless days!!! Upto 26 consecutive days on the laymans count

What I also find interesting is how quickly the F10.7 flux levels have dropped compared to other cycles. I believe it is this rapid fall in activity that is a major contributor to the disconnect between strat and trop. Its as if our atmosphere is playing catch up with a new regime. We have seen exceptionally cold upper stratosphere and a shrinking one to which is all linked to the fall off in both sunspot and flux levels.

Disregard the sun at your peril because once these forcing's kick in who knows what will happen!!

We see another spotless day on spaceweather makes yesterdays count of 11 even more dubious!!
