http://www.spaceweather.com/..

Appears to be growing all the time..

Seeing as we are just entering cycle 24 you wouldn't expect it to have a complex EMF and so, though big, it'll probably be passive.

Guest Viking141

Can anyone tell me if there is any discussion at NOAA (or anywhere else for that matter) relating to the start of the Gleissberg Minima, which is forecast to begin after the peak of this current cycle in 2011/12?

Also, can anyone tell me if the cycle which has just ended is an 11 year Schwabe Cycle or a 22 Year Hale Cycle?

Thanks.

Hopefully i will get some better shots tomorrow as the sun was low and difficult to focus. 40mm wide angle was used for the above. 18-55 lens used on the cam iso 100 & 400.

Had this from the aurorawatch people :nonono:

On 24 March 2007 we installed a broadband connection to our

magnetometer near Aberdeen. This enabled us to switch AuroraWatch

(http://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/) operation over to this site,

which is very quiet and ideal for the AuroraWatch alerts system.

AuroraWatch was also recently featured on http://www.sunearthplan.net, a

site dedicated to providing high-quality articles aimed at the general

public, presenting all the exciting science areas related to the

International Heliophysical Year 2007.

Finally, the team would like to say a big "thank you" to everyone who

responded to our request for emails of support last spring. We received

over 2,500 messages which were collated and forwarded to the chief executive

of the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC).

A question regarding the funding cuts was also asked in the Houses of

Parliament! Our Lancaster & Wyre MP Mr Ben Wallace has also offered

his support and visited our group.

We're pleased to report that as a consequence of this widespread support,

SAMNET has now been funded until April 2008 and the Lancaster team are

working hard to secure its continued operation beyond that date.

First time it's been up to KP5 for a few weeks, and the Bz component needle is heading south...

Indeed Shuggee after quite a drought. There is currently a G2 storm in progress with KP at 6 caused by solar wind.

It won't be stong enough to give us a show with the strong twilight at this time of year.

Another M-Class flare has occurred in the last hour, and the culprit is now revealing itself : sunspot area 960

Along with new sunspot area 958 it looks quite impressive. The latest NOAA forecast is worth a read and gives the following probabilities :

Class M 60/60/60

Class X 10/10/10

Minor radio blackouts occuring. M-class flares now expected at anytime. Sunspot 960 is a beauty!

Already been 4 M-class flares and a C9.5. God help us if we get an X flare square on!

Nice to see a bit of solar action at long last but it's going to take a mighty big X class earth facing flare with a long duration to give us any chance of visible fireworks in the midsummer twilight.

Another 3 M class flares. One very strong M7.8 earlier. But not really earth directed CME's yet.

Ps, not too fussed abt aurora, Kar - the solar flux is exceedingly good at the moment due to this monster, and that'll do for me http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
