The chances of seeing the aurora borealis in the UK increases

There is a chance you could see the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) in the UK tonight, especially if you are in areas such as North Wales, Northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Over the next few weeks the likelihood of seeing the aurora here on Earth is on the increase as two space weather phenomena coincide.

Realy long clear slots here with waves of faint green moving from the North, Great to see and will hopefully get stronger.

Hopefully tonight may produce again. Some wonderful displays over the North of the Uk last night seen as far South as the South Midlands.

Bz has just gone South again. Not dark enough to see any aurora yet but looks promising for later. Unusually we have a good clear sky tonight as well.

This was posted to Netwx FB Hi, Will you be watching the Northern Lights tonight? We are looking for footage of it to feature in our Channel 4 documentary! I'm from a production company called RAW and we are making a 90 minute film about the best weather and astrological events of 2015 that will show on TV in the run up to Christmas this year. If you live in the UK and will be watching the Aurora Borealis or have already captured it - we would love to hear from you! We'll be featuring a story about the UK sightings of the Northern Lights in our film and we are hoping to get as much footage of it that we can. Our film is put together from clips and footage submitted from the public as well as professional footage. Take a look at our first documentary to see the kind of thing we are making -http://www.channel4.com/programmes/britains-winter-storm-heroes The footage doesn't need to be professional, we'd just love to see something that shows your experience of the Northern Lights, filming you or the people you are with reacting to the Lights and telling the camera what you are seeing and what you think of them. Can you hold your phone or camera landscape not portrait. You can contact me by email jo.prichard@raw.co.uk on 0207 456 0800 if you have any questions. Any footage can be sent to my email via https://www.wetransfer.com/ Thanks for your time in reading this, hope to hear from you soon!

QUIET SUN: Solar activity is very low. No sunspots are actively flaring, and the sun's X-ray output is flatlining.

MONSTER SUNSPOT: So you thought Halloween was over? Think again. There is a monster spot on the sun. AR2443 has more than quadrupled in size since it first appeared on Oct. 29th, and it now stretches more than 175,000 km from end to end. The sunspot has more than a dozen dark cores, many of which are as large as terrestrial continents--and a couple as large as Earth itself. These dimensions make it an easy target for backyard solar telecopesOf greater interest is the sunspot's potential for explosive activity. The spotty complex has a 'beta-gamma' magnetic field that harbors energy for strong M-classsolar flares. Any such explosions will be geoeffective as the sunspot turns squarely toward Earth in the days ahead. http://spaceweather.com/
