Maybe this thread should be retitled 'Solar Inactivity Chat'? All quiet on the western front again.... and east, north, south.

Clearly too much CO2 :D

Can you still buy Clearasil these days,or has the sun got it all?

Maybe the rash of SC24 spots just recently was actually the peak of the maximum!

there are still things we don't understand

First B-class for months.

Plus 3 month in a row where sunspot numbers are up..not by much, but slight increase each month, mostly all SC24 spots..so the Sun is stirring albeit slowly and SC24 probably is now underway properly :-)

So NASA think we've turned the corner at last. Upwards and onwards?

with the increasing use of GPS enabled systems in mobile phones let alone satnav,i wonder how many people realise how degraded these services can become during severe solar activity, could be some interesting stories and unexpected

incidents as we come up to the next solar max

The minimum may have passed, but I don't think we'll see any real upwards trend until the sunspots get bigger and move towards the equator. The sunspots we've had so far have hardly been worth mentioning.

http://www.solarcycle24.com/ is reporting a new cycle 24 high lat sunspot ,as is spaceweather

probaly will not last, but there is no doubt things are beginning to speed up,still along way to go yet

I have never posted on this thread but always have a look. I note we haven't had any posts now for over a week does this mean the sun has gone quiet again?

Looks like there might be another active area emerging over the eastern limb for Stereo B.

Ignore the bright line over the Soho image, they've been having data problems over the last few days. It is not an active area covering 1/8th of the surface of the Sun, honest!

At last! Somethings gone pop! http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif

"EXPLOSION IN PROGRESS: An explosion is underway on the sun. The source of the blast lies out of sight somewhere over the sun's western limb, but the ejecta is visible as it billows into space:"

Just wondering if there was any meteor action expected last night?

We saw a dozen or so bright lights in groups of twos and threes soar across the sky in a NE directrion at 10pm from South of Inverness going over the Moray Firth. These were definitely not aircraft.......totally silent and no RAF excercises taking place from Kinloss at the moment.

Weird but no doubt there is some logical explanation

After a brief period of activity the sun seems to have gone a bit quiet again. We're almost at the point where NASA stated that things would move from within 'natural variability'. (I'm sure they said end of December)

Hathway seems confident that it will be the end of the year! Then again, he was confident a few months back. Me thinks it will be some time soooooooooon! :D
