Right SF,

This Irishman will put his "money" where my mouth is.

Heres my bet. Great idea.

140107 - Glasgow - 5

260107 - Carlisle - 3

251206 - Inverness - 3

040207 - Ayr - 3

180207 - Aberdeen - 6

John,

You've NOT read the rules. Go back and try again please, and you can still be the first person, officially, to enter.

Minimum of one day from each month. How are you going to win the league without a goalie or a centre-forward? Oh - you've got a goalie...no no.9 though (March).

oiiieeeee! stop it you might jinx us living in the Abingdon triangle for another year...

....

040207 - Dundee - 2

....

Steeton is a good price. Dundee, unlike Aberdeen, apparently often gets rain not snow.

You may well have the right tactics overall though.

Stratos, You should have put Southend on that list also, the most un-snowiest place on the east coast of England !!

Will put predictions in soon, is there a closing date ??

Paul S

I don't think so, though to meet the "one per month" end of December, or else a reduction in budget equal to the most expensive day in December.

Talk about making up the rules as you go along!

Its finally feeling cold here - 5.8c outside and falling.

Conor. WHAT has that got to do with the price of Aberdeen in December?

Tut.

I didn't put Telford or Stoke in the list, or Buxton; well, there might be a few "pre-season" transfers into the league.

We shyould call it Osborne's fantasy (league)
Why? Is this a thread about dressing up in a 12th century Monk costume while teaching Felicity Kendal about serpants?

I have asked Paul to delete my Dublin score and this should make it 20 points and the I should be ok?

Hunt down the ABINGDON poster...he's not happy with the snowless years :):):)

BFTP

Hello.

I've just realised Abingdon is on SF's list - must be a snowier place than Buckingham BFTP!

It's not. A colleague used to live there and reported (albeit limited) coverings in the winters of 2003/2004 and 2004/2005. Buckingham is both further north and east and therefore does that little bit better in NE-E driven situations.

Buckingham is near Abingdon. It did occur to me to offer both for 0 snow points as a sort of "loss leader", but in essence it would be trading nothing for, in all probability, nothing. Now watch the winter to end all winters descend on the north Chilterns!

Careless of me. Well, nobody in their right mind will buy Abingdon anyway.

Vale of the White Horse, actually. Yes anyone buying Abingdon for the purposes of this exercise needs their head examining.

Wanter points are WON as follows.

If it snows at the location on the day - 10

If there is an air frost on the preceding night - 2

If it is a freezing day - 5 (this includes the 2 pts for the air frost on the night before)

If there is lying snow at the location (irrespective of, and in addition to, whether or not it snows on the day) - 4

Every one of the dates is well over the FI horizon: so come on, turn the prospects for wonter into a real wanter full of winter.

My fantasy guesses-

251206 - Inverness - 3

Are you not confident of snow in the South this winter Enforcer ?

We could be talking about 'the great Easterly of 2007' in years to come.

Confident, moi?

Just take a look at the metoffice snowcover charts.

Steeton is a good price. Dundee, unlike Aberdeen, apparently often gets rain not snow.

That's not true.

Aberdeen is 60 miles further up the NE coast of Scotland and is in a much more exposed location to a Northerly wind than Dundee, so in winter when there's a Northerly wind, Aberdeen gets snow while Dundee gets nothing.

However, when there is an Easterly component, whether the wind comes from a NNE, NE, E or SE direction in winter, Dundee can get a LOT of snow.

Dundee normally fares much better than Aberdeen when it comes to the classic "breakdown" snowfalls where temperatures can be marginal Not to forget- the highest point in Dundee City is 175 ASL.

Being right on the coast doesn't always benefit Aberdeen when it comes to snowfall, but from a Northerly it certainly puts them in the firing line.

Great idea this "Fantasy Snow League" Stratos. Should be good fun.

I'll put my locations in later. This is my first post since April.

Can I ask where within each location the points are gained? Is it from an official site or from members own posts. In Dundee as elsewhere the location can make a huge difference. Where I lived in the North West of the City often has snow when the City Centre and South East by the river has none. This happened on several occasions last Winter / Spring. I am also in a frost hollow. Official reports from Dundee come from the Airport [i think] which lies by the river and is relatively snowless.

The previous post about Dundee's weather is also correct as in a Northerly Dundee suffers from dryness, not a lack of cold.

I hope you all realise that by taking this much more seriously than I had expected I am now going to be boged down keeping track of all this.

On the upside, rather than fantasising about far distant blue colours on GFS, at least there will be alternative things to get slightly excited about.

I hadn't given a moment's consideration to validating events; I am open to suggestions, but if all else fails I will apply a subjective judgement to each site on each day based on the nearest available RELIABLE data I can find.
