Mods, you may or may not want to move this.

I am struck that the many cold-lovers-to-the-exclusion-of-any-other-more-realistic-option on this board must be getting very irritated at the lack of any real and legitimate outlet for the excitement, emotion and general frosty froth that would normally have had some cause for release by this stage in the autumn. Talking about a million highly unlikely "if's", "but's" and "maybe's" out at +660h is all well and good, even in the snow capital of Brighttown, but in the meantime my lawn is still growing like it's May; it isn't - and I'm getting annoyed.

Therefore, all the dreamers out there, here's a chance to construct your own fantasy winter.

The rules are simple:

- You have 20 snow points to "spend" in order to select dates and locations on which snow might occur. The individual whose selection produces the greatest number of points will win.

- You must have at least one choice from each month.

Your choices are (date - location - cost)

061206 - Manchester - 1

101206 - Aberdeen - 3

111206 - Brighton - 1

181206 - Newcastle - 2

231206 - Belfast - 2

241206 - Caerdydd - 1

251206 - Birmingham - 1

251206 - Steeton - 2

251206 - Inverness - 3

311206 - London - 1

050107 - Sheffield - 3

080107 - King's Lynn - 2

100107 - Peterborough - 2

140107 - Glasgow - 5

140107 - Leeds - 4

140107 - Southampton - 2

200107 - Abingdon - 1

210107 - Heswall - 2

230107 - Edinburgh - 4

240107 - Wolverhampton - 3

260107 - Scarborough - 4

260107 - Plymouth - 1

260107 - Carlisle - 3

300107 - Norwich - 3

040207 - Ayr - 3

040207 - Dundee - 2

040207 - Durham - 5

060207 - Dover - 2

070207 - Aberystwyth - 2

080207 - Dublin - 2

100207 - Doncaster - 4

110207 - Kirkwall - 6

110207 - Perth - 5

110207 - Portsmouth - 2

140207 - Liverpool - 3

160207 - Newquay - 1

180207 - Nottingham - 3

180207 - Reading - 2

180207 - Aberdeen - 6

180207 - Lincoln - 4

200207 - Jersey - 1

240207 - Blackpool - 2

260207 - Middlesborough - 3

010307 - Derby - 2

030307 - Blackburn - 3

040307 - Ipswich - 2

080307 - Newquay - 1

100307 - Londonderry - 2

110307 - Fort William - 3

Wanter points are WON as follows.

If it snows at the location on the day - 10

If there is an air frost on the preceding night - 2

If it is a freezing day - 5 (this includes the 2 pts for the air frost on the night before)

If there is lying snow at the location (irrespective of, and in addition to, whether or not it snows on the day) - 4

Every one of the dates is well over the FI horizon: so come on, turn the prospects for wonter into a real wanter full of winter.

Great idea SF but I want some real snow!!

I think there's one or two on here more desperate for it than you though. You're stoking the creative fires in Stratos Towers - careful!

How's about "fantasy who's desperateforsnow.com.uk?"

OK SF, It's a great idea and I am already thinking of my dates. I notice that Buckingham is missing from your list.

You must have given this a great deal of thought and realised that said town has absloutely no chance of receiving any snow this winter as we haven't had any to speak of since Decenber 2000 and before that December 1995 and February 1991 making Buckingham the most snowless place n the UK bar St Mary's in the Sicilies maybe!

:p Regards,

Moose

I think the name of the thread should be changed to the Fantasy Snow league.

Indeed because the thread title doesn't really encourage people to view it because it sounds like another "it's not snowing right now so Winter is over" threads. (a little extreme but you know what I mean)

Great idea though SF, should be a bit of fun.

Perhaps then we could have our own competition BFTP. Abingdon or Buckingham for the least number of days with snow lying and the least number of nights below minus 1 C. What do you think?

:) Moose

I've just realised Abingdon is on SF's list - must be a snowier place than Buckingham BFTP!

Have to say- thought we had two duplicate threads running there looking at the title. Almost didn't look at either of them.

Stratos, You should have put Southend on that list also, the most un-snowiest place on the east coast of England !!

Will put predictions in soon, is there a closing date ??

You'll have to ask Stratos...his rules. But you think it will snow in Carlisle?!!!

Hi OON,

Paul has sorted it out. I have deleted Dublin.

Carlisle. Why not? They had flooding. A snow storm I see coming to this area :p

Buckingham is near Abingdon. It did occur to me to offer both for 0 snow points as a sort of "loss leader", but in essence it would be trading nothing for, in all probability, nothing. Now watch the winter to end all winters descend on the north Chilterns!

...I've just realised Abingdon is on SF's list - must be a snowier place than Buckingham BFTP!

:p Moose

Careless of me. Well, nobody in their right mind will buy Abingdon anyway.

If I had the time and inclination I could see a market developing; perhaps we can offer some transfers as the season progresses, but no spending days that are already behind us. Maybe people could trade actual wonter points won, for wanter days.

I think the name of the thread should be changed to the Fantasy Snow league.

Fair point. I think I started off intending one thing, then just got diverted along the way. What started as intended part-mockery actually seemed like more of a good idea as I got going.

We shyould call it Osborne's fantasy (league)
