Another spell of sleet/ice/snow for the deep south including Houston, only the second time on record that snow has fallen 3 times in a winter. Some remarkable temps around, down to -6C in the city of Houston overnight. New Orleans also having a hard freeze and snow.

Winter storm watch in effect for:

  • City of Calgary

A long period of widespread snowfall, with total amounts of 25 to 35 cm is possible Wednesday evening into Friday.

Snow is expected to move into central Alberta Wednesday. The snow will move south into Calgary by Wednesday evening and continue southward through Wednesday night towards the American border. The heaviest snow will begin late overnight Wednesday into Thursday. However, there is still uncertainty where the heaviest amounts will fall. The snow is expected to end Friday.

A winter storm watch is an alert for the potential development of severe winter weather. Persons in or near these areas should be prepared for developing adverse weather conditions and should listen for updated watches and possible warnings.

Avoid travel if possible. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. For information on emergency plans and kits go to http://www.getprepared.gc.ca/

Warnings posted for a major inter storm for Chicago & Detroit over the next 24 hours with snowfall of up to 12” expected. Morning commute is likely to be bad and disruptions seem inevitable due to the longevity of the storm..

Here in Jacksonville Florida, it's been a much warmer February than normal. The temperature has reached 21C or 70F or above on most days. It's cooled off a little now though.
