Winter Storm Quinlan is forecast to move from the Rockies, through the Midwest and into the Northeast. It could also drop some snow in the Southern part of the country. Wind will also be an issue with the storm.

Is 'snirt' a word that's used in the US or Canada? I just came across it in a word game and thought, nah, wtf? But it's obvious once you see it, just never seen it in the UK.

A snowy morning this morning with a few cm’s of snow on most surfaces. The sun’s out now though,  melting most of it.

A generally unsettled week ahead with more possible snow overnight/early mornings followed by daytime melts.

10cm of fresh snow at Sunshine overnight - great spring skiing ⛷

Gradual warm up for much of Alberta over the next week (maybe the exception being Tuesday with possible snow)

I wouldn’t rule out a 70oF (21oC) by next weekend somewhere in southern Alberta (maybe Medicine Hat or Lethbridge)

The next few days are going to have wild temperature swings. From currently minus 2 some areas may get as high as 24oC (Medicine Hat) through tomorrow and Friday, with even Edmonton and Calgary now looking to get into the 20’s.

Then a rapid cool down with temps below freezing during the day by Monday and snow for many over the weekend.

You gotta love spring weather in Alberta ☀️❄️

the best thing about any snow at this time of year (annoying as it is) is that it is only temporary ..yes a few days of below zero daytime temps before it slowly warms up again

Yeah very true. I was amazed in May ‘08 after having 2.5 ft of snow that most of it was gone within 3 days when the temps rose quite quickly.

A typical spring day today. Very wet and heavy snow. Sticking to most surfaces except some sidewalks and roads. Once it stops it’ll probably melt within a few hours

Big snow pellet shower here, can't remember an April this cold in BC. Has been running 2-3 C below average. At my elevation, only faint signs of spring and I see snirt all over town (also never heard the word before). Most of the actual snow is gone except where piled up by plows. Hills around us are still covered but the Columbia valley has been snow-free since mid-March and the golf courses are open down there despite the rather chilly weather. We had a few warm days a couple of weeks ago but that was it.

After an unsettled cool and often wet/snowy period, spring/summer looks like it’s finally arriving.

By next week I wouldn’t be surprised to see temps across southern Alberta widely up to 25oC and even the magical 80oF (27oC) might be hit in some favoured spots.

Although the diurnal range will be quite large with nighttime temperatures still getting down to mid and in some places low single figures or even close to freezing.

Winter has returned with a vengeance across large parts of southern Alberta.

There are snowfall warnings in place too. Up to 20cm’s possible...

Very cold here also, heavy hail and sleet shower has whitened the ground (snow has been gone here for six weeks now) and the temperature fell back from around 10 C to 2 C. Rumbles of thunder in the distance at the end of the wintry shower. Just a large-scale trough with few signs of significant warming in the near term. Normal daytime high around here is probably 15 C, close to 20 C in the valleys.

An interesting, worrying few days ahead. Forecasts are for possibly 150mm or even more of rain locally. Though more widely 75-100mm being mentioned.

In the devastating floods of 2013 we had 220mm. So it’s a way off that but water levels are already quite high.

I think there’s going to be some problems from this but not on the scale of 2013 (fingers crossed) But if it stalls and amounts are higher, then things could go down hill quickly.

Hopefully the measures put in place after that flood, such as extra protection and enforcement of various flood defences, will help ease the strain.

Rather an interesting "little" feature in Wisconsin. I can't get my head around that strike rate, that's over 6 a second at times!

Yeah sure was. This was the view from the back of the house.

Ended up spending a few nights on the floor in my 2nd floor office downtown which wasn’t affected. It’s flown by, certainly doesn’t feel like 9 years!

Thankfully , though very wet, no where near as bad as I’ve seen it in the past (ie 2013)

Around 100mm in favoured sports but generally 50-100mm reported.

It helped that the rain was lighter than forecast but also colder temps helped lessen the snowmelt and potential flooding as some new snow has fallen on the mountains. In fact some areas of the foothills have some good amount of snows.

Happy Canada Day! ??

Its a nice sunny start to the day. With some thunderstorms forecast it might change later.

Hopefully it holds off for the pancake breakfast and the Main Street parade.

After a two year hiatus due to Covid, it’ll be nice to see the town getting back to normal and people out celebrity.

Over a Million people are now under a Flash Flood warning, including the majority of the Missouri half of the city.
