Well the weather is starting to turn and cool off. Cloudy but still warm with a high expected of 16oC. Snow is forceast on Sunday just in time for Thanksgiving.

For me the most amazing thing is seeing absolutely no snow at sunshine village (ski hill) at almost 8,000 ft. And none at goatseye express at almost 9,000ft.

For early October I don’t ever remember this happening.

With the ski season starting in under 5 weeks there’s lots of catching up to do.

much cooler today - only 8oC. Forecast is for sub zero temps for the nights for the next week.

This should enable some snow making as still awaiting the snow at the ski hills across the region - lake Louise also bare at the moment.

Some snow overnight and finally a light dusting on the mountains. Much colder today. Highs of 7oC and a night of snow flurries forecast with lows close to freezing. Happy Thanksgiving

Surprised to see the snow sticking in town this morning. Currently 2oC. The ski hills are finally getting a good amount of snow.

Thanksgiving is often the turning point for the weather but this year it’s been quite extreme. 22oC last week and 1oC and snow today.

I was going to leave it a while before posting any more pics as I was starting to bore even myself lol.

But theres nothing better than an early morning sunrise in the Rockies, snow on the mountains, a chill in the air and that stillness and peace.

Add in a lenticular cloud over the mountains and a great coffee sitting in front of a roaring fire and it’s close to perfect.

In case anyone’s interested this picture is from one of half dozen webcams in town on

Well that was quite the dumping overnight. 5/6 inches in places. Closer to 3/4 downtown.

It doesn’t help the forecast for the next week barely gets above freezing for you, night or day.

On the flip side of that - look at those upper air temps over the SW corner. More like mid summer. Palm Springs is forecast to reach 43c today, and 40c for the next 3 days as well. October highs should be more in the 32-35c for mid to late October....the heat really has been never ending this year.

Phoenix AZ has seen a record number of days (nearly 150!) above 100f this year to illustrate this relentless heat.

More snow due. A snowfall warning has been issued for today. Only up-to 6 inches but probably in quite a short period of time

Nothing in Canmore....yet. Many times I’ve seen this happen where it skips over the mountains and dumps further east and north. You never know you might get a bit more than that

The snow is setting in now. Just wet at the mo and no real accumulation but that ‘could’ change quickly as the sun sets

As I thought it missed - nothing but a little dusting. Did you end up with much?

It’s snowed every night now for a week. Other than the 10-15cms last week it’s been just a dusting most mornings

Again another morning with a few cm’s on the ground. Snowing steadily with another 10cm’s forecast today.

Forecast is for light snow to continue on and off until Saturday. That’ll be almost two weeks of daily snow.

Not sure I recall such a stretch of continual snowy days going back to 2005.
