First real snowfall of the season here yesterday, looks around 10-15cm, the forecasters spot on. Not as big as the storm around the same time last November but was enough the roads were pretty bad for a time yesterday evening made worse with quite a few people not changed to winter tyres yet. Slightly milder today with a bit of rain about now so is all very slushy, will freeze tonight and stay that or below until Monday by the looks of things so all that slushy snow thats left going to be icy for a few days, might beable to break out the new sledge on the weekend if enough has stuck around after today!

its snowing here again today temps are -15c not much in the way of snow...stays relatively cold through the weekend..then next week could be interesting in Calgary anyway with the temps looking to flip flop from -12c to +12c and back to -12c in the space of 72hrs.

Impressive swings. It turned real stormy again last night, the rain went back to snow was very windy and snowed for a couple of hours, widespread power outages. Wasn't too bad here though only had a few cm's, the further west on the island faired much worse.

We have a frigid few days on the cards then back to mild next week.

Major event which we need to report which is that the North Californian drought is over as monumental precipitation totals are streaming in due to a quasi-stationary low drawing up a tropical moisture plume with semi-permanent south westerlies.

Rocky Mountains nearby (above 7000 feet) are expecting snowfall totals in excess of 10 feet.

Just to clarify something about the geography, Mount Shasta is in the Cascades which run north-south from near the Canadian border (Mount Baker) to a bit south of Mount Shasta, then they morph into the Sierra Nevada in central California. The Rockies are a lot further east, like Montana-Wyoming-Colorado. In between is the Great Basin and a few minor ranges here and there, also the Wasatch Range in northern Utah which is a spur of the Rockies, and the Bitterroots which form the border of Idaho and Montana and run up into B.C. as the Selkirk Mountains. That's about it for mountain ranges except for ranges of hills between the Cascades and the Pacific coast that generally stay sub-alpine except for Washington state's Olympic Mountains -- that can be extended into Canada where the Coast Ranges are sort of an extension of the Cascades but closer to the Pacific coast (and a lot higher than the Olympics).

The weather down here near sea level has been very mild and wet the past two days while all that snow was falling at summit levels, about 10 C and a continual downpour of about 50-75 mm of rain here. This is quite typical of late November but the first such spell we have had so far this autumn.

Looks like another snowstorm for Alberta on Monday? At least once the milder air is removed. It is unusually cold in eastern Ontario and Quebec, New England this past few days.

I have been in calgary most days in the last 5 days and also in Canmore and what has amazed me is the huge difference in weather and temps. Thurs/Fri was minus 12oC in Calgary and snowy conditions whilst it was -2oC here in Canmore.

The last 3 days we have had about 3 inches of snow. Today it hammered it down for an hour or so with about another inch of snow. Weird but it is warmer slightly - 1oC...nothing crazy

Had some funny temps across Calgary yesterday afternoon..it reached -1c where my office is..when driving home i live in the south east...i took 84th street which is in the far east of the city..there the temp was -12c then i swung west and went down 52nd and the temp rose to -3c by time i headed slightly east to my house the temp there was -7c so im guessing the mild air never made it right across the city..was -13c at my house this morning..not the 0c predicted.

I would say nice but not as you had to drive in it.

Here still pretty snowless since the small storm towards end of November, some flurries since giving the odd dusting sometimes. Generally been cold though (for a Brit anyway) around or below freezing probably around the seasonal average with the odd mild day thrown in. This week looks another snow to rain system tonight/tomorrow (more rain than anything) bringing maybe 12 degrees tomorrow briefly before the cold is dragged back in for the rest of the week.

Had a storm over the weekend, widely 20-25cm in the St Johns area. Sort of come out of the blue as a 2 or 3 days before nothing really forecast then the day before looked liked 10-15cm though chance of it mixing with rain on the East coast so wasn't expecting much, then as it progressed warnings put out for 15-25cm with no mixing which turned out to be spot on. Those are the best ones with all the upgrades to surprise than see something bigger forecast a few days before only for it not to happen.

Woke up to find 3-5 cms of new snow here and it's still coming down fast at about 0.5 C, sticking on the roads and some disruptions, all the major bridges around the city seem to be blocked by spun out vehicles. I get the feeling the roads department didn't get the memo about this snowfall as there has been little if any effort made to sand or salt.

Meanwhile, the mountain passes have been closed at various intervals by severe winter conditions as we call snow around these parts. A bus went off the road into a ditch and fortunately only one person slightly injured (way up the highway between Merritt and Kamloops).

Looks lovely outside anyway, for the time being.

In about three days, the long mild spell which set in at the start of the month in the northeast U.S. and Great Lakes regions should come to an end with the potential for widespread heavy snow squalls off the Lakes once the current approaching low moves past, until then it will be rather mild with rain. Much colder for those regions by the weekend.

We've had a load of snow here in the last few days and now its minus 20oC with windchill of minus 30oC. Too cold for me but all the snow on the ground is making it feel very festive. Close to a foot of snow on the ground....that's not going anywhere anytime soon in this cold

I notice that the NWS are starting to publicise the risk of a low pressure system expected to run NE from East Texas up into the upper Tennessee valley later on on Christmas Day - not just around the risk of snow to the north and west of the centre, but the risk of violent storms and isolated tornadoes in E Mississippi, south and Central Alabama and W Georgia. One to watch later on Christmas day evening.....

ALBANY — "Snow: The Sequel" will be showing most of Saturday in the Capital Region.

Light snow that started dropping around 10 a.m. Saturday should pick up in the afternoon and deliver 4 to 6 inches of snow on top of the up 10 inches the region received three days ago, the National Weather Service reported Saturday morning.

Several accidents are being reported this afternoon and part of the Taconic Expressway has been closed.

The weather service increased the expected snowfall totals overnight because the track of Saturday's storm shifted west, closer to the coastline, meteorologist Luigi Meccariello said. Motorists should stay home if they don't need to go out, and use caution if they must travel, he said. The weather will not be as punishing as earlier in the week.
