Hello Rain !

Yes I did it several times last winter, there are some videos on youtube which describe this funny experiment Posted Image ! I will try to find the links.

I only got once a max of -35C, it was on Jan. 14th.

Downtown with the Yukon River it is a bit foggy with ice cristals. At my place, I only got ice cristals below -40C.

About today's weather, it does not look like August 26 with temperatures as 6.2/13.4.

If the wind stops and the sky stays as it is, we may get another frost this night.

The temperature was incredibly stable this night in a range 6.6/6.8C, we have now 6.8C.

Around the territory we have between 1C in Dawson and 8C in Old Crow (map here).

The weather should be cool with showers today, no more than 15C.

For the upcoming week, it will still be wet, and even cooler.

Summer is definitely over Posted Image !

Just had a cracking weekend in Edmonton..wall to wall sunshine temps in the mid 20s..sunny and hot today may hit 28c later..but i think it about to change, cooler weather sweeps through probably what you have just had.

its strange to see the tress turning at a pace even though we have had a warm 2 week spell.

Perhaps just less daylight?

And lucky you are about warmth !

Hi everybody,

4/18.7 and 0.6 mm of rain.

After a short shower this morning around 6:00, and a magic sunrise with red colored clouds, the day was mainly sunny. I really enjoyed !

Now, there is a risk of shower, but it is not bad enough to prevent me from walking the dogs !

Tomorrow morning, we may have our third frost if the wind is calm during the night.

From Wednesday night to the end of this week, weather should be cool with distant precipitations. The like summer break was too short.

To finish my post, I saw two foxes at different places in downtown Whitehorse, they were crossing the streets with people and cars moving around ! Funny...

It freezes in Carmacks, -1, and Haines Junction, 0.

The weather should be beautiful today, tomorrow and Friday would however be rainy and cool again.

Have a great day Posted Image !

Monday we recorded a high of 30oC...it was truly a stunning day. Today its 6oC and raining with the snow level very low. It appears to be approx 6000ft. If it carries on tonight we might have rain/snow mix in the town

Coincidentally, it was this day 3 years ago that we recorded 3 inches of snow on the ground

Hi everybody,

Canadiancoops, that is the reason why Canadian climates are so interesting for me Posted Image !

Here it was a sunny day, but clouds are winning the fight and we will soon get back to cool and wet conditions.

Today's temperature of -1.5/+16.6.

Tomorrow I will do a small summary of August 2011's conditions.

That's it for now !

Good morning,

We have 5.4C this morning, it is overcast, ome showers at the airport.

About the forecast, showers and cooler temperatures for today and part of the upcoming long weekend.

On the territory, temperatures are milder at 5:00, generally between 5 and 7C. Down to -2C in the Arctic area.

As promised, here is a summary of August (2011/2010/Airport 2011, missing data/71-00 Normals at the airport):

Tnm: 4.9 / 6.2 / 6.4 * / 6.3

Txm: 16.0 / 20.4 / 15.5 * / 18.5

Tmm: 10.4 / 13.7 / 11.0 */ 12.5

Tnn: -1.8 / -1.4 / 0.9

Txx: 21.1 / 30.5 /

Precip: 56 / 32 / 58 * / 39

Number days: 17 / 9 / nd * / 13

As you can notice we are 3C below on the highs, while lows are around the normals. We only got one day > 20C while last year we got 31C ! The deficit is 1.5C for August.

We can also see that precipitation is about 20% above the normals.

The general feeling up here is that the summer was dismal.

Here are the normals for September:

Tnm: 2.0

Txm: 12.2

Tmm: 7.1

Record:

Tx: 26.7

Tn: -19.4

Number of days with frost: 10

Tx> 20C: 1

Precip: 34 mm

Days: 12

days with snowfall: 2 (1 with snow on the ground)

That's for now, have a good day Posted Image

Good evening,

5.3/14.9 with 1 mm rainfall due to showers this morning.

We have now 8.6C and the sky is clear.

I think we nay get frost tomorrow morning even if EC and Wxsim both forecast around +2/+3. -3C is reachable to my point of view.

EC released its forecast for this fall and beginning of winter. Cool Posted Image ?

Forget about that long-range forecast above, we're heading into heat wave conditions in western Canada for the next two weeks. The subtropical high is going to drift right over top of us in BC and Alberta, and highs will be into the low 30s © day after day with nothing but sunshine.

A great time to visit here if you're able, with the first of the fall colours showing up in higher elevations of the Rockies.

Good evening,

Hi Roger, I see that it may be better in upcoming weeks, but this is a mid term forecast (3/4 months).

I quite agree with a cold winter in western Canada.

In Yukon, fall is already here, and we are far from the 30s .... Today it was overcast, cool (no more than 12.1C) and windy.

The weather conditions seem too have been better north and west, but rainy on Whitehorse and in the south.

It was the good weather to go running, to prepare the house for the winter and do some shopping.

Tomorrow, it should be better with some sun.

That's it for now, ciao Posted Image

The Yukon is not regarded (by Canadians at least) as being in western Canada for climate at least, maybe in political terms it is, but in northern Canada, I'm sure you've heard the phrase "north of 60" and in fact in climate terms northern Canada probably begins about 56-57 deg N. I don't see any chance of that seasonal forecast verifying if the first three weeks of September come in much above normal as it now appears (and the forecast is for Sept-Oct-Nov). Whitehorse gets some Pacific influence even in the winter but if this is your first winter up there, get used to -35 Celsius or colder, and if you have to travel anywhere further north -50 Celsius is fairly common, also because of the low sun angle it doesn't warm up very much from the overnight lows in the daytime as it does further south in arctic air masses. They also see a lot of ice fog in some parts of the Yukon, notably Mayo and Old Crow. Lovely up there in the summer though, but as you say, it's a fairly short season.

Down here in the banana belt, September has become the new July in recent years, it seems almost a better month for warmth and sunshine,

Good evening,

Yes, Roger, I agree with you we are up north !

It will be my third winter, I already got -45C (probably less, around -48 when I walked the dogs in my area) in January, and also above 30C several times in 2009 and 2010.

Today was mainly cloudy but less cool than yesterday with temperatures of 3.1C for the low, and 15.4C for the high.

Here are some pictures I took this afternoon:

We have now 10.2C, tomorrow should be mainly cloudy and cool, but weather conditions should be better for the rest of the week.
