This is disgraceful from Mike Newell. OK - I understand what he is trying to say - that a lineswoman really

shouldn't be officiating in a men's football match (owing to the difference in stamina levels between men

and women).

But to say this: "She should not be here. I know that sounds sexist, but I am sexist, so I am not going to be

anything other than that" is absolutely disgraceful!

And yet another gaffe further on: "This is Championship football. It is not park football, so what are women doing here? It is tokenism, for the politically-correct idiots."

He should get in trouble for saying stuff like this. It is rather like Ron Atkinson's racist comments when

the studio microphone was left on and he didn't realise.

"QPR defender Marcus Bignot, who used to manage the Birmingham women’s team, attacked Newell for his remarks."

- I'm not surprised!

Tractor boys crushed the yellow scum 3-1 today and fully deserved it against a rubbish Norwich team! There are so many good elements to the Ipswich team particularly as their probable 2 best midfielders didn't even play today (Garvan and Williams) but also bad ones in Ipswich's still apparant poor defending (Richards couldn't defend a bag of penny chews from a 5 year old).

Do not read anything into this result again as Ipswich are undoubtedly one of the most inconsistent teams in all of the divisions.

When it comes to sexism, there always seems to be negative name-labelling on both sides.

If someone flags up a difference between men and women, they are seen to be sexist. If someone challenges a gender stereotype, or social norm segragating men and women, a person who accepts it without question will usually dismiss the challenge as trying to be "too politically correct". http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif

I take quite a consistent line on this issue; as far as I'm concerned, officials should be there if they are proficient at what they're doing, and otherwise they shouldn't. That way, there's no chance of sexism or political correctness coming into the equation.

I don't consider myself at all sexist when suggesting there are differences in stamina levels between men and women.

Take the track events at the Olympic Games for example - the lap times are almost always quicker for men than women (or slower for women than men).

The question is can a lineswoman reaonably be expected to keep up with the faster male footballers?

If so then good for her!

Good to see Derby doing well just now. I think Billy Davies is a fantastic manager and the fans attack on him recently was a joke. He seems to have turned around the club in the short while he has been there. I hope they get promoted. Nice to see West Brom get a result too, 5-0 today - their fans have been quick to jump on Tony Mowbray's back as well after some poor results recently, I'd like to see them promoted too as he got Hibs playing some great attacking football. The West Brom fans should realize that the fact he managed in the SPL has nothing to do with their recent results and TM will get The Albion back in the Premiership. Some humble pie for Baggies fans next year I think!

fans attack on him ?

your right Billy Davies is a suberb manager ...tatickly brilliant .... the side he took at Derby was a joke but in half a season the turn around has been nothing short of miraculous and once in a very long time we have a team that plays for each other and actualy like each other !!

at the begining of this season most Derby fans would have been happy with a midtable finish ....but our current position offers our new board a bit of a dilemma all be it a nice one ...do they buy big in the jan transfer window ....we have money to spend but do they try to make the prem this year ?

During a recent league game the team was booed off at half time whe trailing 0-1 before eventually Derby won the game 2-1.

In a way I can compare Aberdeen to Derby this season - getting results and a great league position but not playing amazing football. Although, this is only the impression I get with Derby, you will obviously be a better judge than me!

Good win for us Baggies yesterday .5- 0 against Coventry who did have one of the strongest defences in the championship.

Ok we havent been all that consistant in recent weeks , but bare in mind we have a new gaffa on board , and i think he is just trying different players at the moment to see who can fit his style of football ... to be honest i hadnt heard Mowbray before until he took over at West Brom , but now he has settled in and the team are settled i think we will be a good bet to go straight up again this year . Thats 3 wins on the bounce , against inform teams ,

The team he put out yesterday , were brilliant , keep it up and we will be knocking on the door .

this game would have been ipswich at home.....I'm a season ticket at Derby and I can tell you for a fact it wasn't the team that were being booed it was the ref who had to be escorted of the pitch at HT

but don't let journalist get in the way of a story

and not for the first time either they are getting worse and really do seem to be taking over the game ....there ego's are HHHHUUUUUGGGGEEE

Refs often get booed off.

I'm certain they are getting worse ...I fully understand they are under emense preasure with camara's looking down on them from all angles but they seem to be enjoying there own part in what seems to be theatre

and what next they start wearing shakespearean jodper type trousrers http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif http://nwstatic.co.uk/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif ands instead of a whistle they have a skull ?

It's very hard to stop play with a skull. Trust me.

I'm with you on the poor decisions though. I think refs get paid too much...

Another win for the Baggies at home on Friday night ,, left it very very late indeed though to keep our promotion push alive , thats 6 out of 6 in the last 6 matches at home now ... all we have to do is concentrate on our away form , if we can get that together , then who knows , Personally i think TM has done a wonderful job so far ... Koumas is playing the best football he has played for quite some time , Phillips is playing out of skin , we just need to tighten up at the back ,

Come on you Baggies

A life long baggies fan ,, even though im now living in Newcastle .. i still follow them , The wife tryed to convet me to going to watch the Toon , {GOT NO CHANCE]

Great to see Derby now sitting at the top of the league. I'm delighted for Billy Davies as I remember him as an excellent young manager at Motherwell all those years ago. The Rams have slowly but surely worked their way up the table and have finally reached the summit. Fingers crossed for automatic promotion as they are now my 'English team' for this season and will be next as long as BD is still in charge.
