marigolds haven't earned their money at all here, pretty though they are. apparently they have to be installed early on as their smell repels the buggers, but once the blighters are installed the marigolds don't send them away again.

My answer to the original question on this thread is the same as many have suggested, soapy water in one of those spray gun things.

Marigolds, an often under-rated plant, not only does it keep many pests away such as aphids etc, it also helps to keep cats off the garden, cats aint too keen on the smell of them!

Sycamore.......the weed tree ;) Get one, you could end up with 10...or 20!

A concoction of garlic Potty Prof, apparently. Somewhere around here is 'the little book of garlic', a great book for garlic fans in a hurry. Last year my runners got covered in black fly at the end of the growing season, complete with ants milking them for their juicy substance. This year, mass infestation of black fly started a couple of weeks ago. I blame the climate. (No cat anymore either).

aye... ill give it a shot on the apple tree.. cheers for that.. ;)

managed to stop the ants from going up there this year with a glue bandage so the aphids have been neglected.. just wondering if anyone knows if the ants move the aphids around as this year there is only a concentration of them on one side??

Suddenly, this thread seems to have left the subject of gardening, and entered the realm of our personal experiences after a ride on the magic roundabout. lol

hmm, 'twas the swear-filter what dunnit. i meant greenfly i think.

still haven't got rids of them off the tomatoes, but i take the pepper plants outside and give them a good hosing every few days which just washes them all away. can't do that with the toms though cos they're now all strung up!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
