Streaming Webcam

Hi all, having tried various software i still havent found any decent software for direct streaming my webcam (i.e in windows media or though java). I go through a router which may proove tricky, but if any of you can help it will be greatly appriciated.

(p.s, using a netgear router, and the webcam is an old Sony Digital8 hooked into the usb)

Cheers for that I shall give it a whirl, but the last streaming software i used couldnt seem to get through my router(hopefully this will be different).

The best way to set it up is to have someone else on another pc trying the web address of your cam, which will be your ip address with http:// in front of it.

The port that you set the cam up on, i.e 8000 may have to be allowed on your router, but that shouldn't take more than a few mins to do.

If you have any problems, post them in this thread and between us we can sort it

should my computer ip address start with 81. ? or is that external.

i ahve the software set up now, but what i found to be my ip address, when i type it into I.E i log into my router, not the software.

Stick http:// in front of your ip address and post it in this thread. You will bring up your router page if you look.....

Ok, the port on your router must still be blocked for incoming requests.

Find out what port the webcam is streaming too, maybe (8000) and go into your router settings and look for something like Firewall - Virtual servers and add an entry to allow the port that your cams using.

Mines a Belkin but you get the idea, i.e

o.k thanks i'll try that out, so is that address correct that i posted?

Yes! It was just timing out because your in built firewall on the router was stopping incoming requests to that port.

Windows firewall or ZoneAlarm should pop up for you to allow it, but with routers you usually have to select the port manually.

Well after 4 weeks of troubleshooting i still havent got it to work. I have literally opended most of my ports now, and tried the software on each and no joy. It just seems like theres no way possible of opening my router up to allow people in. Its quite annoying as well.
