UK Outlook for Wednesday 6 Dec 2006 to Friday 15 Dec 2006:

The unsettled spell of weather looks set to continue throughout the duration of this forecast. Periods of rain, often heavy and accompanied by strong winds will be interspersed with brighter, more showery conditions and temperatures ranging mostly from near normal to mild. There is a chance of a longer drier and colder spell around Friday 8th and Saturday 9th with night frost for many, but changeable milder weather is expected to return later in the weekend and continue through the following week. Snow is likely in colder interludes in the north but mainly confined to high ground. Confidence is high for the general unsettled theme, but lower with regard to the chance of more prolonged drier weather around the 8th/9th.

I am in Carmarthenshire, we finally have a weather warning! We have 60% chance of it too. Aslong as I see gales over 60mph im happy, were expected to get 70-80mph. Im happy

The unsettled spell of weather looks set to continue throughout this forecast period. Spells of rain, often heavy and accompanied by strong winds, will be interspersed with brighter, showery conditions. There is a continued risk of severe gales in some exposed areas, especially in the west. The continued bouts of rain may also pose problems. Temperatures will often be near normal or mild but with one or two slightly colder spells. One such spell is likely at the start of the period, with night frost for some areas and wintry showers over hills. However milder weather with rain and strong winds is expected to return later next weekend and continue at times through the following week.

The very unsettled spell of weather looks set to continue. Spells of rain, accompanied by strong to gale force winds, will be interspersed with brighter, showery conditions, the showers wintry at times over the high ground of the north of the UK. Southern and southeast parts, however, should see some drier spells through this period with the northwest increasingly the area most likely to have heavy rain. There is a continued risk of severe gales in some exposed areas, especially the west and north of the UK but in southern parts the risk of severe gales looks set to reduce quite early in the period. Apart from one or two slightly colder, showery spells, temperatures in general will be near or above normal.

Overall a breezy period of weather with strong winds and gales at times and a continued risk of severe gales, chiefly in northwestern parts of the UK. Temperatures are expected to be mostly above normal though this period and although one or two colder intervals are possible, the incidence of frost is likely to be low.

Generally more settled at first, with patchy overnight fog and frost and perhaps a few wintry showers in the north. However, the weather will gradually return to an unsettled mode, reaching northwestern areas early in the period, and probably spreading to most parts by the end of next week. Northwestern areas will see the worst of the rain, at least up to next weekend, though even here some drier interludes. Windy from the middle of next week with gales at times in northern and western UK. After a rather cold start in places, the southwesterly winds will bring a return of mild conditions, though this may take some time to reach the southeast. At the moment the following week looks likely to be dominated by mild, unsettled conditions.

Indeed there is the potential for some very wet and windy weather to end the old year in some parts of the UK, with the possibility of severe gales in the north. Through the rest of next week, there will be further rain or showers at times, although with drier, quieter, clearer periods in between, especially in the east and south - so the best of the sunshine in these areas. At times it will be cold enough for some hill snow in the north but temperatures will more often be in the range near normal to mild, with any frost likely to be rather short-lived. However it does look like being windy at times.
