Valid for Wed 6 Sep 2006 to Fri 15 Sep 2006

A more settled spell of weather is expected through the first part of this period with largely dry weather and above average temperatures. However some northern and western districts will be more cloudy on Wednesday, with outbreaks of rain, and these conditions may spread southeastwards to some western and central districts by next weekend. There is also a low risk that outbreaks of thundery rain may spread to parts of southern England through next weekend. Temperatures will be near normal in the northwest otherwise warm, perhaps very warm in central and southern parts at first. Beyond next weekend indications are for a good deal of dry weather and with above average temperatures.

High pressure is likely to be centred near to or to the east of the United Kingdom throughout most of this period, and consequently a good deal of dry weather is expected, with sunny spells in most areas. Temperatures are likely to be above average in most areas, with some warm or very warm temperatures possible in the sunnier parts. There is, however, is a risk of more unsettled conditions, with some thundery rain edging towards southern or southwestern parts at times, particularly later in the period. It could be rather breezy here at times too, otherwise winds should generally be light.

There is a strong signal for rather warm or warm conditions continuing throughout this forecast period with high pressure generally to the southwest and low pressure generally to the north encouraging a warm southwesterly airflow to dominate. Some showers or rain are likely for all parts during the first five days, but there should also be some spells of sunshine around, especially in southern and eastern areas. Northwest Scotland is likely to become windy at times too. Indications for the following week then suggest typically mixed conditions for most with some showers or spells of rain at times. Northern Scotland is likely to see the most of these along with some strong winds at times. Meanwhile, some good periods of dry, sunny weather are likely further south, especially for Wales and southwest England.

The UK as a whole will start unsettled with spells of rain, some of these heavy, especially towards the northwest. The best of any brighter interludes will be towards the south and east. Gales are likely towards the northwest, possibly even severe at times in more exposed parts. Gradually, from around midweek, southern and eastern England should see less unsettled weather, with only patchy rain or showers and increased amounts of sunshine. The northwest will remain quite windy. Going into the final weekend and there is very little change indicated in the overall pattern, staying relatively changeable still for many, but with the northwest continuing to see the most rainfall and strongest winds. Some rain or showers will again spread down into England and Wales though. Temperatures are expected to be mostly above normal, perhaps locally warm at first in the east.

Some eastern and southern parts are likely to start generally dry, but conditions elsehwere are expected to be much more unsettled with outbreaks of rain, and locally strong winds. This unsettled weather will spread to many places prior to the weekend. Thereafter, changeable conditions are expected to continue with rain or showers, the heaviest and most persistent rain likely across northern and western parts of the UK, whilst the southeast sees the best of the available drier, brighter spells. Temperatures are expected to be close to the late September average generally, although it is likely to be a little above average in the brighter parts of the east and south. Additionally it will feel cooler towards the wetter, windier northwestern districts of the UK.

Basically same ol' scenario - high pressure to the South East over the continent and low pressure to the Nort West and a balmy tropical maritime effecting more southern and central parts (as per the last few months).

Thanks for the updates though!!

Low pressure is expected to affect northern and western parts of the UK throughout the period. There is a risk of some showery rain over southeastern parts over the first weekend, but otherwise much of eastern England and possibly eastern Scotland should be fine. More central and western parts of the UK are likely to be rather unsettled with showers and some spells of rain at times, along with some periods of strong winds too. However, with a southerly airflow dominating, rather warm conditions are expected, with warm weather in any sunshine in the east.

For much of this period Atlantic depressions are expected to affect the UK giving unsettled and changeable weather. Bands of cloud and rain will cross all areas from time to time, some of the rain quite heavy especially in the south and west. Between these bands of rain, some brighter and drier days with sunny spells and only scattered showers. It will be windy at times especially in the west with a risk of gales that could be severe. Temperatures near or a little above normal with the warmest conditions across eastern parts of both England and Scotland.

It seems likely that unsettled weather will affect many places initially with showers or longer spells of rain, especially in western districts of the UK where some heavy rain is possible. Somewhat drier conditions are possible for a time on Sunday before more rain or showers move in from the Atlantic during the early part of next week. Conditions are not expected to change too much later next week, and over the following weekend, with showers or spells of rain. Some drier and brighter periods are expected, the best of these occuring in eastern districts. It is likely to be windy at times, especially across western areas where gales are possible. Temperatures should be near the early October average in northwestern parts of the UK but above average or even locally rather warm in the brighter parts of the east and south.

General indications are for the unsettled weather to remain established over the UK for much of the period. Winds are likely to start coming from a more west or northwesterly direction, which will lead to many areas having more seasonal temperatures. In particular some cooler nights than of late can be expected, although parts of the east could still see rather above average temperatures at times. Rainfall amounts are likely to decrease, particularly later in the period, as the weather becomes more showery, though particularly in the north, some longer spells of rain are still likely at times. The best of the sunshine, therefore, is likely to be in the south.

An unsettled start is expected for most with showers or longer spells of rain, these locally heavy, especially in the west and north, with temperatures close to average. However, a build of pressure is expected to bring drier conditions for a time to many eastern and southern areas. There should be plenty of sunshine by day lifting temperatures into the rather warm category in places, but clear skies by night will allow temperatures to fall sharply to give patchy fog, and perhaps a local frost. During the middle of next week, unsettled weather is likely to return to most places with some prolonged rainfall possible, again especially in the west and north. With winds coming from the south or southwest, temperatures should remain near or rather above average by day, with night time temperatures recovering. However, winds may become strong at times.

It is quite likely to start off rather warm in many parts of the country, however it also looks set to be fairly wet around midweek with some heavy rain in places, though this should clear away to the east by the end of the week. The weather during this rest of the outlook period is likely to remain fairly unsettled for most with further rain or showers, particularly in northern and western areas, with southern and eastern areas seeing the best of the drier and brighter weather. Indications throughout this period are for the above average temperatures to continue, but as we head towards the end of the forecast, there is a slightly increased risk of cooler temperatures, particularly by night in northern areas.

Here's the latest:

Valid for Sat 14th Oct to Mon 23rd Oct 2006

With high pressure expected to be established to the north and east of the UK, plenty of dry weather can be expected during this forecast period. Easterly winds will bring variable cloud and some sunshine by day, but thicker patches of cloud are likely to bring some patchy rain or drizzle in places, especailly in the south and west with any risk of heavier rain confined to the far southwest at first, However, the risk of heavier rain does extend further northwards and eastwards across central and southern England along with Wales into next week. Temperatures should remain close to the seasonal average well into the period. Later, there is a chance that colder conditions may spread southwestwards across the UK with some showers developing in the north and east, these perhaps wintry over hills. Clearing skies at night will allow temperatures to fall smartly with a steadily increasing risk of frost, particularly for more sheltered central and western areas.

This seems to go against the recent GFS runs by saying easterly winds when GFS has been showing southerly winds.

Mark.

Rather unsettled across the UK at first with areas of low pressure moving east across England and Wales, spreading cloud and outbreaks of rain, heavy at times across most parts, with a risk of some wintry precipitation over high ground in Scotland and northern England. Some brief, drier, and brighter spells are also possible at times, mainly across northern parts of the UK. It is also likely to be windy at times with some gales possible in exposed places. Later in the period there may be a trend to more drier, settled conditions across the UK, but still with the likelihood of some showers. Temperatures will be above or near the seasonal normal in the south at first, but becoming colder here later with a low risk of some overnight frosts. Further north it will be colder with some overnight frosts.

A fair and balanced assessment.

Occasional rain for most on Saturday, but becoming drier in the south over the weekend. Scotland and some other northern parts will stay cloudy with further rain though. Next week looks like starting fine across England and Wales, but more unsettled and windy at times further north. There may be some mist, fog and low cloud at times in the south. That unsettled weather is likely to spread more widely by midweek though with a return to showers and spells of rain across all parts for the end of the week and over the weekend, along with occasional periods of strong winds too. Temperatures will be mostly above normal throughout the period, and warm in parts of the south at times.

Dry and settled across southern parts for the weekend with sunny spells, but overnight frosts and some fog are expected. To the north it should be fairly mild but rather windy, with some sunny spells, although northern and western Scotland are likely to be more cloudy with outbreaks of rain. Unsettled conditions are expected to spread southwards across the UK early in the week with plenty of cloud and rain at times, driest and brightest in the south and east. The unsettled conditions look set to persist over northern parts throughout the period, with northwest Scotland probably having some heavy and persistent rain along with gales at times. Meanwhile, in the south drier, sunnier and calmer weather is expected to return for the second half of next week before unsettled weather comes back from the west by the end of the period. Temperatures will generally be around normal, locally rather warm in any sunnier parts.

Rather unsettled and windy at first, though with near or above average temperatures, and rather warm in the east. Rain may be heavy at times in the west and northwest, though parts of the southeast may well stay dry. There is a risk of gales or severe gales across Scotland, particularly the north. The weekend should stay showery in the northwest, but the south will become dry again and probably remain so throughout the following week, though with temperatures returning towards the seasonal average and local overnight frosts. The north also will become dry early in the week, and less windy, with temperatures staying well above average, particularly in eastern districts.

Largely dry conditions are expected across England and Wales for the first weekend with some sunny spells and the chance of overnight fog and low cloud, and perhaps a touch of frost. Temperatures around or just below normal. Scotland and N.Ireland will be more unsettled with occasional outbreaks of rain, locally heavy, especially in the northwest, and stronger winds. It should be mild though. Those unsettled conditions are likely to gradually spread southeast across most of the UK early next week, and thereafter a southerly flow is expected to bring plenty of cloud and outbreaks of rain to most parts. Probably wettest in the west with the driest, brightest conditions in the east. Largely mild in those unsettled conditions, but temperatures may dip back towards normal from the middle of the week. The following weekend could well become milder again though.

High pressure will persist to the south of the UK with Atlantic depressions mostly passing close to more northern parts of the UK. This pressure pattern will maintain the unsettled weather with winds mostly coming from the west or southwest, although some spells of north or northwesterly winds are also likely. There will be further spells of rain across all areas. In between the longer spells of rain, some drier and brighter days as well with scattered showers. Windy at times especially in the north with a risk of gales. Cold or rather cold at times in the north with snow at times over high ground, and a risk of frosts and icy roads. In the south, mild at first but becoming rather colder with an increasing risk of night frosts during any quieter spells.

Conditions look like being unsettled generally during this period. Over the first weekend, showers or longer spells of rain are expected, although many locations may have a reasonable start. Some persistent rain, possibly heavy in places, along with a risk of gales may push northwards across the UK during Sunday. It will stay mostly unsettled next week, with a risk of some heavy rain in places. Northern parts are more likely to see the driest, brightest conditions, although all parts may have a quieter spell of weather for a short time from midweek. Further wet and windy conditions may then spread in from the west for the following weekend. Temperatures will mostly be near or just below normal, although some milder weather is possible especially in the south at times, and some colder conditions and overnight frosts are expected in the north.

The unsettled weather is set to continue throughout the further outlook period with periods of rain or showers across all areas. There will also be some spells of drier and brighter or sunny weather weather as well. Towards the end of the weekend there is a risk of some very windy conditions, especially in western and northern areas with severe gales or storm force winds possible. Temperatures on the whole look like being near normal to below in the north, but somewhat milder across southern areas at times. After the weekend it is looking more like a southwesterly type airstream with generally milder conditions for all, although continuing wet and windy at times especially across the west and north.

Very unsettled over the weekend and into the first half of next week with rain or showers, which may be wintry over high ground in the north. The rain is likely to be heavy and prolonged at times especially over the south and west. It will be windy at times with gales or severe gales and the possibility of quite stormy conditions for a time. Towards the middle of next week conditions may become a little more settled especially over England and Wales with some brighter and drier interludes. However any respite from the wet and windy theme is likely to be brief as very unsettled conditions with further heavy rain and strong winds at times return to all parts by the first weekend in December. After a chilly start in the north temperatures will be near or a little above normal for much of the time and it may become mild at times especially over the south and west. The far north may become colder again later.

It is expected to remain generally rather unsettled up to and including the weekend with further spells of rain or showers for most parts. The rain is likely to be most persistent across northern and some western parts, where it may also be windy at times with a risk of gales. Further south and east, however, there is a better chance of some lengthy drier periods with bright or sunny spells and, with lighter winds, a risk of overnight fog patches. Temperatures are expected to be mostly on the mild side. Thereafter, it is most likely to remain rather unsettled but there is a suggestion of temperatures trending to nearer or a little below normal.

This period will start on the mild side, with rain or showers, locally heavy, for most parts of the north and west, but the southeast should start mainly dry. Windy as well, although with a lessening risk of gales overall. During the following week, some drier, slightly more settled weather may affect central and eastern England at times, with lighter winds. But the emphasis through most of next week and beyond is that it will remain rather unsettled with occasional rain for most places, and the risk of wintry precipitation on high ground in the north. Temperatures by this time should be mostly near the seasonal average, but perhaps with some colder days and occasional frosts, especially in the north.
