Weather Watch

Category: Level 2 Warning

Weather type: Gales and Rain

Affecting: northern areas of the country down as far as the north Midlands.

Time and Date Valid For: Wednesday 0000 to 2400

Time Of Issue: 8.30pm Tuesday September 2005

The northern half of the United Kingdom will experience very windy conditions for most of this week as deep Atlantic lows swing up the far western side of Scotland. Some quite large rainfall totals are also expected, chiefly near and over western slopes of high ground.

Overnight and into Wednesday a cold front will bring strong winds and several hours of rainfall to the areas mentioned.

Net Weather believe that warning limits may be approached for both wind and rain but not exceeded.

Winds reaching 40-50mph in exposed areas, especially in the north and west, decreasing by 10mph further south; some gusts of 60mph are likely over high ground or due to funneling through valleys.

Rainfall totals of 10-20mm seem probable in some places, chiefly over western hill slopes.

Currently Net Weather are monitoring the situation and will update as necessary.

Please be aware that further updates and flash alerts may be issued.

Confidence Level: 80%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Please note, that this alert is covered by the net-weather terms and conditions of use, which are viewable here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
