Weather Alert

Category: Level 2 Warning

Weather type: Storms and torrential rain

Affecting: Southern England, Midlands, East Anglia

Time and Date Valid For: 15.00 Friday 24th June - 00.01 Saturday 25th June 2005

Time Of Issue: 15.50 Friday 24th June 2005.

This is an update on the previous Flash and Alert.

The severe storms from this morning are now just about into the North Sea.

A new area has developed over the past couple of hours. At 3.30pm it was in a line from just south west of Birmingham to around the Isle of Wight. This will move north east at about 25 mph. As it does so the thunderstorms associated with the line may well become more widespread with the possibility for some severe storm cells. These would have torrential rain, lightning and gusty surface winds.

Our map shows the areas most at risk, and storms over northern France may also move across the Channel to affect these areas this evening.

The heavy or even torrential rain expected over the northern half of England and Wales is not now expected.

This alert will be updated as and when is necessary.
