I love stuff like that. Looks like it was a pretty chilly, cloudy day 107 years ago. When I stayed at home in Perth I used to go to the local library to pour over local newspapers from Perth and Dundee that dated back to the 1920's. I would spend ages looking at the old weather reports, particularly the reports from 1947 and 1962/63. I just wish I had access to them now as I know a lot more now, I was just a fledgling weather nerd back then :) !

Interesting stuff Mr Data.

Love reading about past weather. Although on a nearer scale, at my parents house we have some of the 1987 deep freeze cuttings. Shall have to dig them out next time I'm there!

Yes I love stuff like that too. My mother has a bundle of newspapers, mainly from the Shropshire, Staffordshire area dating back to about 1820 and continuing, intermittantly up to about 1850. I remember, as a child, going through every one and copying, in long hand, every weather related item. I still have them somewhere, must look them out.

My dad used to keep a daily diary and these had loads of weather entries from the late 1930's, through the 40's and into the 50's, fascinating stuff.

Hi Anti-Mild

What about this link, brilliant:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/mtullett/1962-63/index.htm?N=D : a day by day account of the inter of 1962/1963

Look at the associate links that has a lot of info on the winter of 1947

combined with

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
