Hi Amanda.

Somebody asked about this yesterday.

When viewing the ppn or any other chart on the GFS viewer, this will only work if the GFS has completed its current run in that time frame.

For example, at 18.30, you should be able to see all of the ppn charts, as the 12z run has been completed (and the 18z has not started).

However, when the 18z starts at approx 21.30, you will only be able to see upto the time frame that this run has completed up to. So, for example, at 22.00, you will probably only be able to see upto T+42 of the 18z. After this, because the run (i.e. 18z) has not processed, there is no data. Therefore you will end up with a blank box, with a red cross in the corner.

Well, that was my understanding of it, and seems to work.

Perhaps there is a way of keeping the previous data/charts in, once a new run has started, until the new run has caught up?

Amanda - I've just had a look now, and I can view all the ppn charts. Have a look now, and see if its working (as the 12z run has completed, but the 18z hasnt started yet).

Yep - same for me. I've deleted file, done the F5 thing. Then went to the WZ Charts - ppn type and can only view the first one. Get a little grey box with a red cross in it - 'H500'.

Been like this since Saturday at least.

Data Centre

Charts from WZ

GFS

Ppn type

What is weird is if you look at a random chart of any other type on the GFS - say +132 850hpa chart, and then click on precipitation type - that chart will appear. But none of the others will - you get that damn little grey box again!

Perhaps the way to do it CMD is for the map to be divided into discrete areas, say 50 areas, 1,2,3 ... 50. Then everyone puts the appropriate number into their profile relating to the map. That should work.

I've just been out to help prevent orchards being chopped down, so excuse me if I'm not making much sense :)

I often refer to OON's map to find out where a particular county is. It's invaluable :) (I even discovered Rutland is back!)

And I was also thinking a map showing members locations would be handy. But with 4,500 odd members and counting I can't see how they would comfortably fit on a map of the British Isles. And even if they did, it would have to be 'us' members who put ourselves there - because there's just too many - unless KW, Hemlock or Nick F wanted to do it. :)

I can imagine a map, such as the members weather stations' one (if not the very same :) ), but with a grid overlaying it. If each square in the grid is given a sequential number, say from Lands End to Tugmistress, or whatever, members can then:

Step 1: Look at the map and try to identify where they live with respect to the map

Step2: Read what number is in the little square where they live

Step3: Put that number into the 'From' bit in the Profile

Then, if the link to the map is easily at hand (easier than looking it up in some ancient text - 'AA Great Britain 1805 Road Atlas' in my case - which is sometimes left in the car to help thieves get away/absorb moisture), it makes a very simple matter of quickly finding out where that member is.

Maybe something for the new year :)

I like it! Would take a hell of a lot of work though! But it would be very useful indeed

Can someone tell me what I add or leave out of the following code (it's for a smiley in my signature) to make it work, have tried various combinations but nothing seems to be working for me. The code is as copy and pasted from Smiley Central:

<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxmk696YYGB' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/26/26_17_4.gif' alt='Scotland' border=0></a>

You can try before and after the following: http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/26/26_17_4.gif

Gonna put this in announcements!

NW gets a mention, along with the url address, in the Jan 2006 edition of Practical Wireless magazine :cold:

The article is to do with lightning strikes, and it mentions how some weather/lightning sites update every 10 minutes - and how net-weather updates every 60 secs...

The article was in the Databurst pages.. ( http://www.pwpublishing.ltd.uk/ )

You can't use html on the forum at all I'm afraid - the code buttons are for displaying raw code etc in posts so that the forum doesn't translate any of it or anything.

Has "view new posts" been disabled.

Also, is that article slightly better than this mention in The Mirror's Britains top 10 forums.

WEATHER

IT comes as no surprise that the national favourite topic of conversation has a host of hangouts. This one is particularly suited to geeks who know their isobars from their warm fronts.
