Sorry about another late post for 3 march.

Light snow showers and snow pellets throughout the day here.

Still some snow patches but now less than 15% snow cover - continuing slow thaw under sunny spells

4 March.

2cm of fresh snow overnight and light snow falling at 6am.

Turned to heavy rain at 7.30am with a rise of temp to 2c by 8am - and then a rapid thaw.

Obs at 10am - temp is 4c still some snow laying and we have had 3 fairly sharp hail showers in the last 15 mins. Wind NW at 12 kts mostly

Minor correction to the report I posted earlier. When I got outside and measured it, the fresh snow was actually 2cm, not 1.

Not that it makes much difference as it's almost all thawed now and only the old, frozen snow remains.

Just had a shower of sleet and the temp' has fallen from 4.3c to 3.0c.

A had a moderate to heavy spell of snow this morning which gave a significant dusting to much area and turned my road completely white. Brst cover we've had yet. Sadly on my way into town it was turnign to sleet and is now intermittent light rain. Never mind, it was nice to see something :D

A dramatic change in the weather in the last 5 minutes, from sunny intervals and a temp' of 4.7c to heavy snow and hail and a temp' of 0.8c. The bare patches in the fields were the snow had thawed are white over again. Wind increased to 34mph for about 5 minutes.

Scary journey into work today, started snowing lightly at 8am so decided to take the car, the A127 Near Laindon was down to 20 mph with zero visibility at times, both lanes had constant traffic but the snow was settling, major accident on the other carriageway involving 4 cars. Managed to get through somehow, but took 40 minutes longer.

Why are the schools closed with just 2-3" of snow on the ground? Pathetic really.

I didnt think it was going to be the rain or sleet event the media said because when I woke up the car park outside was a sheet of ice and it was about -2 or lower overnight even on the seafront.

Both BBC1 and ITV seemed to rush over what would happen early in the morning and focussed on the snow overnight in the midlands then showing rain by the afternoon in Kent.

When the band arrived here in Hythe, Kent just before 10am and it started off as light snow then moderate and then heavy snow for a couple of hours. At one point the snowflakes were literally as big as golf balls. Left generally 1 inch and 2 inches in places, there are probably more outside of the main town high street area where people have now walked and there are layers of very treacherous slipppery slush. It's thawing a bit now. Probably got more on the outskirts and up on the hills I am expecting Folkestone, Capel, Hawkinge etc probably got more anyone know?.

Sleet turned to rain up here last night.

There was then a hail shower at about 7:00 AM this morning.

That is all we have had in Darwen today.
