Date Valid For: 00:01 Thursday 18th November - 23:59 Friday 19th November 2004

Time Of Issue: 16:45 Wednesday 17th November 2004.

A strong and cold northerly airflow will establish itself across many parts of the country during tonight and tomorrow (Thursday). Whilst many areas will simply turn drier and colder, northern and eastern areas of Scotland are likely to see heavy snow showers developing during Wednesday night into Thursday.

Several cm's of snow are possible during this period in the area mentioned, and will cause difficult driving conditions so extra time and care should be taken.

Wintry showers are possible over other parts of Scotland exposed to the north/northwesterly winds, along with northern parts of England. However, any snowfall is unlikely to settle in these areas.

Date Valid For: 00:01 Thursday 18th November - 23:59 Friday 19th November 2004

Time Of Issue: 15:45 Thursday 18th November 2004.

A strong northerly air flow is establishing itself across the UK. It is likely that Northern and Eastern Scotland will experience snow showers in increasing frequency as we move into the evening and night time period, with several cms of accumulated snow is likely even to low ground. In addition to this strong to gale force winds will effect these areas.

Further south, a band of rain is moving slowly through England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The cold air is digging in behind it and it is likely the precipitation will turn to snow above 100m with some small accumulations possible. There may even be sleet or even wet snow down to low levels later. There is some uncertainty about this so please check for updates to this warning

WEATHER ALERT UPDATE - THURSDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2004

Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Snow Showers/Extensive Ice

Affecting: All of the UK

Date Valid For: 22:00 Thursday 18th November - 23:59 Friday 19th November 2004

Time Of Issue: 21:45 Thursday 18th November 2004.

A strong northerly air flow continues to establish itself across the UK, bringing much colder conditions across all areas.

After this evening's heavy rain, sleet and snow, clearin skies will lead to temperatures falling below freezing in many parts. As a result, widespread and extensive ice is like to cause problems tomorrow morning. Please take extra care if venturing out, and allow extra time for your journey.

In addition to this, snow showers are expected to affect many coastal areas of Scotland, Northwest England, Northern Ireland and into North Wales overnight. A dusting of snow is possible in many over these areas, however, northern and eastern Scotland may see several cms of accumulated snow, even to low ground. In addition to this strong to gale force winds will affect these areas, causing drifting of any lying snow.

Confidence Level: 75%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Expect further updates as and when is necessary.
