Advanced Weather Alert

Category: Level 2 Warning

Weather type: Heavy Rain/High Winds

Affecting: Southwest England, Wales, Eire, and Northern Ireland,.

Date Valid For: 00:00 Wednesday 27th October - 23:59 Thursday 28th October 2004

Time Of Issue: 09.30 Sunday 24th October 2004.

A deepening Atlantic low is expected to slowly move northeastwards towards the UK during the midweek period, before becoming slow moving close to the southwest.

This system is expected to bring increasing southeasterly winds as we go through Tuesday (26th), with these winds expected to peak during Wednesday (27th) and Thursday (28th). East/southeasterly winds will freshen ahead of the advancing system to become strong to gale force in many parts. However, in the southwest of England, Wales, Eire and Northern Ireland these winds are expected to become gale to severe gale, perhaps even storm force around coasts and hills. Gusts of up to 75MPH may occur, which will be enough to cause structural damage to buildings and bring down trees.

Extra care will be needed during this period as conditions may become very dangerous indeed.

In addition to the strong winds, a spell of heavy rain will move northwards associated with this system, and after the recent very wet conditions, localised flooding may become an issue as well.

Please stay tuned to Net-Weather for further updates that may be required.

Confidence Level: 70%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Expect further updates as and when is necessary.
