4. Good Evening Folks, Since the website has been upgraded we appear to have lost the previous thread on NL football and so i have started a new one with immediate effect. As fellow posters will know I am a Chelmsford City supporter for my sins and we will be away to Cheltenham Town in the FA Trophy this Saturday. We always appear to at almost every opportunity to play the highest positioned team in cup games. Cheltenham are currently top of the league above us, whilst in the FA cup this year we met Ebbsfleet who are top of our league. We beat them in a reply at their ground only to lose away in the following round to lowly Basingstoke. Last year in the FA Cup we played Barnet, drawing at home with them, only to be well beaten by them in a replay. They were top of the Conference National top division at the time. This year the only consistent thing with us is our inconsistency. Having lost against Basingstoke in the FA cup we visited them again the following week and beat them easily. Three week ago we beat Hayes and Yeading 5-0 away, only to lose at home the following week to Eastbourne who had previously not won in 9 games. According to the Non League Paper Sutton United have been reinstated into the FA Trophy following our Essex neighbours Concorde Rangers fielding an illegible player in the previous round. Clive what is the latest news on this. Are you now definitely entertaining Lowestoft Town in the next round on Saturday or is it still subject to appeal by Concorde? Kind Regards Dave
5. Thread for the Sky Bet Football league 1 and 2
6. I wanted to mention the success of Britain at the European Swimming Comps, and thought there was no dedicated thread, and didn't really want to open one for one post. So I opened this thread, where people can discuss "Other Sports" British Swimming has had a mixed record to say the least in recent years. in 2-12 Olympics in London, there was a poor showing with only 3 medals in the pool, and no golds. In the 2-13 World Championships, there was a poor showing with only 1 medal in the pool, and no golds. However this year saw British success at the Commonwealths in the pool and this has been carried over to the European Champs. With Britain winning 11 golds, 8 silvers and 8 bronzes, winning the overall medal table with 27 total medals. A record breaking haul, hopefully this will translate to more medals at World level. http://www.bln2014.de/competition/medal-count/?lang=en

10. Being inspired by @TomSE12 and the competitions he has been running I have decided to give this a try. The rules will be as follows, for each match make a prediction for example Inter Milan 2-0 Slavia Prague for each correct result you will be awarded 1 point and for a correct score 2 points will be awarded, you will also be asked to predict your most likely result which I will be calling your MATCH OF THE NIGHT and if you get the correct result on this you will get 2 points and a correct score will get you 3 points please make your MATCH OF THE NIGHT prediction by making it a font colour other than black for example Inter Milan 2-0 Slavia Prague or putting MATCH OF THE NIGHT next to the prediction. You will also be asked to predict the outright winner of the competition and the winner of each group, each of these if correctly predicted will get 3 points. Here are the groups GROUP A Paris (PSG) (FRA) Real Madrid (ESP) Club Brugge (BEL) Galatasaray (TUR) GROUP B Bayern (GER) Tottenham (ENG) Olympiacos (GRE) Crvena zvezda (SRB) GROUP C Man. 15. i think there should be a dedicated thread for all things horse racing. cheltenham approaches and then we have the new flat season. on that subject, sad news that the 1000 guinneas favourite, Chrisellium, was put down last week after failing to recover from a foot infection. Only a few months after connections had stood with Bo Derek after winning the Breeders Cup for juvenile fillies, their year is ripped apart. i guess thats sport but must be so difficult to take. lets hope for some better news in this thread ......................

18. so ..... this woman is unfortunate (or fortunate) to have naturally high levels of testosterone which has arguably given her and advantage when racing against other women. she has now required to take testosterone inhibiting drugs so as to 'level the playing field'. i dont think this is right, and that semenya should be allowed to compete. surely the most successful athletes are successful because they have some physical, natural advantage?.. where will 'levelling' stop?.. i mean, people with longer legs have an advantage - by the logic employed here should they have leg reductions? , i believe that africans have a higher haemoglobin content to their blood then white europeans (told that by a professional sportsperson) - should athletes be seperated by ethnicity? are those complaining about semenya just mardy snowflakes?
19. Damn, looked like Wiggins got the gear selection wrong on the Angliru. Getting a British winner of a Grand Tour is like waiting for England to win the football World Cup!
20. Quite surprised not to see a Golf thread on here, with thousands of members there got to be plenty of weather enthusiasts out there that enjoy Golf. If so, what is your handicap? Where do you play? Have you had a good season? Would be nice to chat with fellow golfers. Cheers
21. Australia's national women's soccer team have suffered a devastating defeat in the lead up to the Rio Olympics - going down 7-0 to the Newcastle Jets under-15 boys side. What is particularly concerning for the Matildas is that despite resting some regulars, they were still able to field experienced international stars including former AFC player of the year Katrina Gorry. Despite the embarrassing defeat on Wednesday night at Valentine Sports Park in Newcastle, the Australian team will travel to Brazil as one of the gold medal favourites. 22. I'd like to open up a Thread now for a Late Summer Horse-Racing Competition, the centrepiece of which will be York's superb, Ebor Festival. The word "Ebor" is taken from "Eboracum", a Roman City which later became York. I was never fortunate enough to visit York Racecourse, either in a working capacity or socially. A couple of my colleagues, who were fortunate enough to go Racing at York, agreed that it was the finest Racecourse they'd visited. During my time working for Croydon Credit Bookmaker Sunderland, York was often voted top Racecourse in the country. It was noted as having the finest facilities for Horse, Stable Staff and Racegoers, alike. The Racing on offer is of the finest quality, with many Group Class Races and the running of the Ebor Handicap, the most valuable Handicap run on the Flat, in Europe. The Knavesmire is a favourite Racecourse of many leading Trainers, with it's fair and galloping Racetrack. I shall use the usual Format of an allocated "virtual" £1 Each Way on each Selection. In some Races you will be allocated, 2 picks. I will also include a couple of additional Categories: Category 1 - YORK GROUP 1 TRIXIE. Category 2 - YORK HANDICAP DOUBLE. I'll kick off then with the YORK GROUP 1 TRIXIE. This will comprise of the following Group 1 Races to be run at the Festival, the JUDDMONTE INTERNATIONAL STAKES, the DARLEY YORKSHIRE OAKS and the COOLMORE NUNTHORPE STAKES. in combined Doubles and a Treble (aka a Trixie). You will be asked to Select a Horse in each Race. You will be allocated "virtual" Stakes of £2. You will have 4 options of deploying your £2 "virtual" Stakes: OPTION 1 - 3 x 50p Win Doubles,1 x 50p Win Treble. OPTION 2 - 3 x 25p Each Way Doubles, 1 x 25p Each Way Treble. OPTION 3 - 3 X 50p Win Doubles.1 x 25p Each Way Treble. OPTION 4 - 3 x 25p Each Way Doubles, 1 x 50p Win Treble. You decide, which. Listed below, are the Racing Post links to the Current Declarations' and Betting Odds for those 3 Races that comprise the, YORK GROUP 1 TRIXIE: JUDDMONTE INTERNATIONAL STAKES(WEDS.21st AUG) https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/107/york/2019-08-21/732954 HORSE ODDS ENABLE 5/4 CRYSTAL OCEAN 6/4 KING OF COMEDY 4/1 MAGICAL 4/1 CIRCUS MAXIMUS 7/1 JAPAN 14/1 HERMOSA 16/1 LORD GLITTERS 16/1 MAGNA GRECIA 16/1 PINK DOGWOOD 16/1 ANTHONY VAN DYCK 20/1 REGAL REALITY 20/1 22/1 BAR THESE. 1/4 ODDS. 1,2,3. OTHERS ON REQUEST. In a short while, I will post up the Racing Post links to the Current Declarations' and Betting Odds for the other 2 Races that comprise the, YORK GROUP 1 TRIXIE, plus the Selection Boxes and Stake Option Box, for your Trixie. Regards, Tom. ?
23. Here we are with the 2017 season just a few days away! I begin this thread with the sad news that 2008 Roland Garros champion and former world number 1 Ana Ivanovic has retired from professional tennis with immediate effect. I wish her the best in the future... Tennis is technically back tomorrow, with an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi. Most of the ATP top players are there competing, including our Andy! Good luck to him and let's get this season started!!

Swinging Sixties!

No this isn't an entry about the fall of social taboos! In fact I am talking about fahrenheit! This week parts of the north-east will experience temperatures in the mid 60s fahrenheit (17-19c). It doesn't sound impressive, but bear in mind temperatures have struggled to get past 12c during the last few weeks, and the brisk northerly winds have made it feel like February! Happily the weather improves this week, and although those of us on the east coast will see more cloud and lower temperatures, it will nontheless be a substantial improvement. What happens after this weeks warmth is anyones guess, but a return to the cold dross we have seen for most of May looks unlikely, thankfully. On to sport, and a big congratulations to York City for their play-off win over Luton Town yesterday. York now return to the football league after an 8-year absence, and while you have to feel sorry for poor ol' Luton, it is terrific to see York back where they belong. Plenty of golf action occured yesterday, with the booming Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts beating Graeme McDowell in the Volvo Matchplay Final. Colsaerts takes home his biggest paycheque to date and moves to just outside the top 30 in the world rankings. Meanwhile, Jason Dufner won the corresponding PGA Tour event in Americaland. On a wildlife note, it has been more than a little disappointing on the insect front. I still haven't seen one damselfly or dragonfly adult yet, and although I did see a few butterflies around during late March and early April, the first (and in some cases only) generations on the wing have really suffered in the brutal weather. Happily, birdlife hasn't suffered too much, with plenty of swallows, swifts, house and sand martins about - great to see! That's all from me for now, thanks for reading
