  2. Hi, I start a topic on the weather in Italy, focusing on the weather in the city of Siena and in Tuscany. Italy has a very complex climate. The position on Mediterranean Sea and the intricate orography of its territory makes forecast very difficult and sometimes unpredictable also in the very short range. As you can see in the map town of Siena is situated in the centre-north Italy, in the heart of Tuscany, 50 km south of Florence, the capital of Tuscany, and 185 north to Rome. Italy's capital. Siena' centre(where I live) is located at the altitude of 310-360 meters and was build majorly in the Middle Age on three hills. The weather is mild. Summer is hot and dry. Autumn can be very wet and rainy, Winter cool but very very rarely cold. Snow falls 1-3 times a year. The mean in 61-90 was about 20-25cm per years, in the last two decades the mean dropped to 10cm per years. The coldest month is January with a Mean Temperature of +5°C, the hottest is July with a Mean T. of +22.2°C, the yearly mean. Temperature is 13.2°C This datas are based on 61-90 mean of Siena's University station, located in the center of the town, 348 m.
  3. Hi. I’m an Italian boy. I live in San Biagio, a little village between Forlì and Faenza (near Bologna and Rimini), in the Po valley (32 m – 1261 inch), in the North of the Italy. From 01/31/12 to 02/14/12 there was a wave of frost and a lot of snow. In the Forlì’s province has been beaten the record of 1929. There was also need the intervention of snowmobiles to free the city. The drifts of snow came up to the first floor windows. Here the total accumulation (all the follow place are in the plain): San Biagio: 160 cm (63 inch); Forlì: 170 cm (67 inch); Cesena: 200 cm (79 inch); In the hills (300 m of altitude – 11820 inch) there’re more of 300 cm (118 inch), also 400 cm (158 inch) of snow. The temperatures were always below zero for 7 days in San Biagio and, the 02/14/12, the minimum temperature has been-19,2°c (-4°F). Here the photos. PS: I apologize for my bad English. 4. Does anyone know of any instances in the UK where sea breeze initiated storms have occurred? They occur almost daily during the wet season in Florida where the two sea breezes from the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico converge in the middle of the state bringing spectacular thunderstorms. Polk County gets around 25 storms a month in June, July and August. Further convergence areas are then set up by thunderstorm outflows, allowing the storms to rumble on into the night even after the sea breeze dies out. A similar effect occurs in Cuba where the sea breeze from the north meets the sea breeze from the south, although it is less pronounced than in Florida. I also believe it can occur in Italy from time to time. As the UK is also quite narrow I wonder if its possible for a westerly sea breeze to meet an easterly sea breeze to bring thunderstorms? In Florida it usually only occurs from May to September as the sea surface temperatures are in the low 30s, and the temperatures over land need to be higher than this for a sea breeze to set up, but the seas around the UK are far cooler, so sea breezes can more easily affect the UK. If anyone knows of an example of a sea breeze thunderstorm outbreak in the UK I'd very grateful if they could let me know when it happened! I have attached a diagram I found which outlines the phenomenon quite well:
