Has severe weather become more frequent across the British Isles? It seems from reading reports over the last few years that tornadoes have increased in frequency, more funnels developing, this could be because more people are reporting them since the internet, and more photos due to more mobile cameras, i don't know but i'm interested in your thoughts on this. Also droughts could be lasting longer, flood events becoming more common, we hear about floods more often these days than we used to. Significant change? Many strange things are going on with our weather patterns, i'm sure you have noticed some changes to your local climate, i have, and it's noticable for me to now study it more closely to find out what is causing it, it's interesting, more snow in winter, less summer thunderstorms, unusual sudden warm spells in February, colder summer months, we have had some severe winter weather over the last few years, something since 2007/08 has changed, maybe it's going to change again, back to the mild winters? lack of snow, increase in thunderstorms in the summer, who knows, but it's interesting! I would like to ask what others feel about all this, i feel something big has changed, this is significant. -
Hope this is ok to have a seperate one! This particular system is generating alot of high rainfall totals, this has been focused across the Southeast overnight and is moving into other areas, an earlier radar grab shows where the heavy rains have been and are still falling in the same areas, The purple/pink returns are the torrential falls, a prediction from NAE model on the 18z run below for 9pm-3am shows how well it did, Next the NAE 1200-0600hrs (00z) 0300-0900hrs next Next 0600-1200hrs Next 0900-1500hrs Next 1200-1800hrs Some large totals of rain still to fall, we also have the risk of further developments in the SE, these thunderstorms if they develop would cause torrential downpours and flooding, so severe and slow moving and lasting into the night, it's the SE that has the high risk of actual thunderstorms, although i can't say if some thunder breaks out elsewhere! Below is the total precipitation totals up to midnight tonight, first is NAE then GFS, (both 00z) some pretty big sums in there. Next is the surface pressure at 1500hrs, this is NAE and the surface winds at 1500hrs The lifted index here indicates some unstable air around this feature, Some CAPE around in places today. Lots to keep watch on today! -
