  11. Hello all, Working on a TV documentary about extreme weather in the UK in 2012. Trying to hoover up as much interesting video footage as I can find. Anyone got any good stuff? Obviously we will pay for whatever we use. Drop me an email, nick.gilbert@dsp.tv - if you see this before July 13.
  12. Thought you might like to see some lightning shots taken off the coast in Australia... http://bit.ly/WCFJNE More to come over the coming weeks.

The last storm cell in a line of four during a memorable evening in Russell county, Kansas. Several chasers intercepted a long lived tornado underneath this storm but we couldn't turn down the opportunity to watch from further afar and capture some of the prolific lightning from this storm.

This photo captures the tightening hail core of this monstrous supercell storm. This photo was taken just before the storm passed over the town of Piedmont in Oklahoma where several other chasers reported a tornado touching down near a gas station.

  15. Thunderstorms developed and moved across the Bradninch (mid-Devon) area from 23:00 on the 11th August to 02:00 on the 12th. I call this the spider strike as it comes out from a central core and moves in different directions.

  19. (I think I posted this in the wrong forum earlier today. So re posting here. Hope that's ok) Hi all. This is a long shot but I guessed this was the best place to ask this question. I have a blog about thunderstorms, a very amateur affair, but I need some help. Where would be the best place to get information about weather conditions in the York/Yorkshire area for the years 1959/62? Somebody (over 50) from that area may remember a particularly violent thunderstorm, I know it was August, it lasted all Saturday night and into Sunday morning. I was only a child but I remember our house being flooded and the lights dimming, but I do not know the year. It was roughly as above as I was very young. Oh, and there was torrential rain. As I say, it's all a bit vague but I hope someone can help perhaps in pointing me in the right direction. Thanks in advance Jess.
  20. A video supposedly taken this morning of a tornado in Bray Might be associated with this storm
  21. Does anyone know of any instances in the UK where sea breeze initiated storms have occurred? They occur almost daily during the wet season in Florida where the two sea breezes from the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico converge in the middle of the state bringing spectacular thunderstorms. Polk County gets around 25 storms a month in June, July and August. Further convergence areas are then set up by thunderstorm outflows, allowing the storms to rumble on into the night even after the sea breeze dies out. A similar effect occurs in Cuba where the sea breeze from the north meets the sea breeze from the south, although it is less pronounced than in Florida. I also believe it can occur in Italy from time to time. As the UK is also quite narrow I wonder if its possible for a westerly sea breeze to meet an easterly sea breeze to bring thunderstorms? In Florida it usually only occurs from May to September as the sea surface temperatures are in the low 30s, and the temperatures over land need to be higher than this for a sea breeze to set up, but the seas around the UK are far cooler, so sea breezes can more easily affect the UK. If anyone knows of an example of a sea breeze thunderstorm outbreak in the UK I'd very grateful if they could let me know when it happened! I have attached a diagram I found which outlines the phenomenon quite well:
  22. Today was quite interesting. Around 8am when I woke up there was driving drizzle up until about 9:15am. After this moved in a series of Cb clouds producing some extremely heavy hail bursts with some rather large sized hail and very qually winds. Although the wind was around 25kmph already, when these showers arrived the winds inside were in excess of 78kmph and gusts of stronger. No lightning seen or reported on the radar. Here are some photos. Comments welcome! Here an inflow tail or developing cell: A cell a few miles out over the bay: A fully developed cell over the town center:
  23. First storm of 2012 is knocking on our doors. I think I am allowed to do this so I created a new topic on guess the gust for this storm and where
