I'm one of those people who can feel so completely alive durng a thunderstorm but find them incredibly relaxing too. I know that people finding storms relaxin and using the sounds as sleep aids is incredibly common and I was wondering if anyone knew the science behind it?

Hi there guys i moved in Southampton, UK since early September and i haven't witnessed any T-storm with lightning and hail up until now, so i was wondering if they do occur any thunderstorms in this area and which month of the year most frequent? I am from Cyprus and we get lots of daytime thunderstorms mostly in Autumn and Spring when there is increased instability and nightime during Winter. I used to chase them and pictured a couple of funnel clouds and tornadoes so i look forward for any T-storm to occur.

I've just written a blog hopefully explaining more about how the Met Office create their weather warnings and how the 3 levels now include likelihood of severe weather and the possible impacts. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=news;storyid=6466;sess= Did you know this about the impacts? Is this the right way to go for the public? With this explanation do you feel the warnings are now more helpful to you? The Matrix is now a key part of the warning, but is there anyway to show high impact, lower likelihood or medium likelihood of low impact event from just the 3 colours?

Here's a few pics from the storm on the 14th. Cape Clear is an island off the south Cork coast and is the most southerly inhabited place in Ireland. Twas difficult to stand straight at times and I lost count of the number of shocks I got from electric fences! It was a few hours before the worst of the winds, but I still recorded a gust of over 110km/h with mini handheld weather station I have attached to my bag.

Hello everyone and welcome! As we go head first into the depths of the start of this winter there seems to be a storm on the semi-reliable (or whatever you want to call it) time-frame. At the moment the strongest winds looks like to hit Scotland and some of the western coasts of England. (According to the gfs 12z run) This is 8 days out through so however because its not in the reliable time frame just yet major changes are expected at the moment becuase i think we know what models like to do. For extreme fans this might be a good storm to check out (if it happens)

We are now heading into spring and later summer, which means that the thundery showers and thunderstorms will soon be developing. Use this thread to post your videos and images from thunderstorms in the UK and they can be from this year, or any other year you wish! I'll get us started. This was a storm that was recorded on November 9, 2013.

Some models are picking up that Bertha is set to hit the UK around the end of the weekend or next Monday. However the models are going to a massive storm all the way to a no event happing. So really we shouldn't make predications until at least Friday. Before that through there will be wet weather to do deal with for the weekend. So what do you think will happen? Note:The only reason why I have done this is because the Bertha could become a dangerous or big event,so it stands out with its own thread/topic.
