1. Hello, just wondering if any of the Tour 5 guests are on here? Only days to go now... Does anyone have any questions regarding photography equipment before we head out?
2. Good morning My partner and I are both professional photographers, one shot that’s been on our bucket list for too long is the classic coastal storm / lighthouse shot. We’re planning to travel to Porthcawl tomorrow to capture Storm Brian, any tips or advice would be most welcome…
3. Hello peeps, This will be a thread to share your own time-lapse videos in. I did this one recently: Its pretty long, but pretty interesting:
4. Good evening! I am a British photographer who is planning a new documentary photo story for 2018. I want to make work about storm chasers, of all ages, what drove them, their interests and lifestyle. Basically everything they do. I understand that I don't have storm chasing experience, but it's more about the people that I am interested in. If anybody is interested or knows of some great characters who would like to be involved! Please get in touch!
5. It's the big one! The final of the storm chase USA 2016 photo competition. The entries have been whittled down in the first vote, so we have the cream of the crop for the final vote. One small change is that on the tour 1 photos - photos 5 & 6 made it through to the final, but they were from the same day / same photographer, so just one of them is included in the vote, and the fourth place photo from that tour is now included in the final. The vote will close on Friday at 11am. Good luck to all the finalists! All photos were taking during the 2016 WeatherHolidays/Netweather storm chases by guests - if you'd like to join one of our tours, take a look at the WeatherHolidays website for more information. 6. Hi, I went out to America with Netweather this year for the Storm Chase on Tour 1 and got some amazing shots. I found the camera I had (Fuji S2950) with me, a bit difficult to use for the type of photography. It doesn't have much offering for long exposure, and it was very much a guessing game as to whether I caught lightning on it. As well, photography under the storms where its quite dark, didn't really come out brilliantly. I wasn't able to catch the colours that I was actually seeing, in the pictures. I have a budget for a new camera before I go out to America next May, and am asking for suggestions for a new camera, that is really geared towards photography of storms and landscapes. I guess these are my most important requirements:- Camera that has good feedback for learning to capture lightning with Generally good at capturing colours in storms well in darker surroundings (under storms) Long exposure (longer the better) Panoramic photography would be beneficial. My current camera is a bridge camera, and I am open towards suggestions of bridge cameras again or cameras with separate lenses. Budget is upto £500-£600 if the camera is a good one. Any suggestions for cameras that are currently used for similar activities would be massively appreciated. Cheers, Mike.

10. Following on from Tom's attempt to see the illusive northern lights, I thought I would also start a thread for anyone interested in following my attempt. I am going with my girlfriend next Wednesday 6th February and staying there for 5 nights, 1st and last in Reykjavik, and middle three nights in Fludir which is further inland and more remote. We are renting a car, which I am very nervous about, I have never driven a left hand drive on the right hand side before, it will be strange. The sun is looking very quiet at the moment in terms of sunspots, and time is running out for that to change. I'm not building my hopes up for any CME impacts, but relying more on the solar wind or some minor flares. Iceland can be quite cloudy which is also a worry, early signs look like high pressure could be around for our first night at least, which could give us some clear skies, but anything could happen yet. We have plenty of other things planned, waterfalls, geysers, blue lagoon, volcanoes etc, so even if we don't see the northern lights, hopefully I will get some good photos and we will have a great time. Would be great to get some more people liking my photography page in my signature and my twitter, I will be keeping them updated too with photos, especially facebook. Anyway I will update again nearer to our departure.
11. Thought you might like to see some lightning shots taken off the coast in Australia... http://bit.ly/WCFJNE More to come over the coming weeks.
12. We're running an autumn photo competition over on facebook, with prizes of nw extra subscriptions (lite and radar) and mousemats you can get involved here : http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151185782714326&set=a.263185829325.139818.8623474325&type=1 Good luck
13. Hi all, we're introducing a new media partner program later this month and I wanted to give everyone on the community the first opportunity to get involved and give some feedback. In short, we'd like to invite people to become media partners with Netweather, which would entail sharing your weather video (and possibly also photography) with us. We will then feature that footage on Netweather giving you some great exposure and we will pay you a share of the advertising revenue generated by people viewing your videos/photos. This program could be ideal for those of you who like to get out and about capturing the weather across the British Isles (and beyond) so if you're regularly capturing good quality weather footage we'd love to hear from you. We're still in the process of finalising the program so if you're interested in joining it or have any thoughts about how it may work best for you, please either drop me a pm or email via this page: http://www.netweathe...n=contact;sess= Thanks Paul
14. Just spotted this on Twitter and thought it was worth sharing on here too - it's an iridescent pileus cloud and is an incredible effect: http://bit.ly/o1qcsU
15. Hello folks, I have finally got round to looking through all of my photos from this years storm chase! Here is part 1: Texas - 9th May - 2009. After landing at Dallas Ft Worth airport we were straight after the storms. What better way to start than seeing our first supercel. A low precipitation (LP) supercell base: Then a High precipitation supercell straight after!: The lightning and rotation from this supercell was incredible and we were all very surprised that it never quite managed to drop a tornado. The HD footage is very nice, but due to file sizes limits i've only uploaded the video to youtube in standard format. The supercell then made its way to the town of Brownwood, Texas where we later found out was heavily damaged by large hail. 9th/10th May 2009 - Texas. The following 2 days were unfortunately down days after a good start. Still the odd sunset to see however; 12th May 2009 - Again, Texas! This was probably one of the best storm days of my life. I'll let the pictures do most of the explaining... Convection initiated: A storm fired and we were off! A dust storm initiated as the storm dragged in the moisture. Spot the lucky hidden lightning strike in thise first photo: I have video of this storm as the dust reduced visibility to only a few yards but as yet i still need to upload it. As we chased the storm we saw an amazing base which contrasted against the red fields. A quick gustnado then whipped up some dust Then a lowering Finally, the chase led us to Childress, Texas where we witnessed some amazing structure, a possible tornado, the vortex 2 project with its associated many DOW trucks. Oh and some nice lightning and mammatus... A very small funnel starting to form? Oh, and maybe a tornado? The Weather Channel/ Discovery Channel filming next to the team. Then some nice mammatus and lightning. And then finally, an amazing video of a lightning bolt landing within a few feet of us. (You cant see the lightning but you can defo hear it!!!!) Well, that was my first blog entry. I hope you enjoy the photos and look out for part 2 soon!!
