Storm & Convective Discussion 12z 21/7/14 ------>

Estefex was actually quite correct you must remember to qualify it within a probability of 'x' amount of miles of a given point, i would have said 50 miles would be correct, you can not predict much closer even the NWS and NSP centre in the US do not normally predict severe weather in less than that distance. the Oxford Supercell was almost within that distance of you. As to what you get with that type of storm even a mile can make a difference as to what you get one side of Bicester had 1" hail the east side just rain. So on our small island draw a 50 mile circle on a map around Oxford that will cover a large area the storm top when near Oxford was so high it was visible from Portsmouth i personally watched it from near Brill in Buckinghamshire and at one time drove under the edge and got caught in a torrential downburst soon got out of it to watch it start to break down to the north east. Remember just because storms of any sort are predicted does not mean you will personally get your own -
first hint of storms forming near Tours in France will head north and build

Where you videoing from behind glass as you may find it was focusing on rain drops etc. on the glass if you cam has manual focus set it to infinity or it may just be the rain/hail causing haze and making the strikes diffused -

thats what you want a hole to appear in the cloud/mirk to heat up the land it will get the convection going to help form storms -

Working night shifts keep having to go out on roof of workplace to see if I can see anything in the distance all evening but sky is a bit murky/hazy and a bright moon. Mixed feelings for tomorrow night would like it off to watch but no one to cover my shift and storms cause havoc at my workplace with generators kicking in an out and equipment needing rebooting etc. can be hard work an no time to watch lightning boo. -
just scanned all the forecasts and models how long will this settled spell of weather last i'd say looking good, a few cooler days if you can call 25c cool then warming up for next weekend again, what's next at a guess looking at the forecasts a bit cooler but who knows will we make 100f (37.7778c) in uk in the next few weeks
