  1. Howling gales here on the coast with gusts reaching around 60-65mph quite frequently, the mobility outside the house is a bit tricky and one of the neighbours was clinging onto her drainpipe in the gusts so I got her safely back inside! 6.2c here but it feels sub zero in the wind.
  2. Hell it's windy now! Just rescued a neighbour who was trying to get some rubbish into the bin outside, she was clinging onto her house drainpipe to stop herself being blown over, safely back inside now. Recording gusts between 60-65mph at the front of the house with my anemometer.
  3. Quick return to frost this evening 0.0c right now after a max today of 4.2c, felt decidedly cold.
  4. A cold day with a max of 4.2c, fallen back down to 3.0c now with patches of cloud spreading in from the west ahead of tomorrows weather. Been a lovely sunny day and very welcome.
  5. Freezing cold this morning, sitting at -2.4c but a gorgeous crisp late winters day coming up.
  6. The polar NW'ly still being modelled for the start of next week which would deliver frequent heavy wintry showers and blustery winds, not had a set up like that for a while so I'm looking forward to that Another very windy day coming up it's already howling outside gusting 40-50mph.
  7. Exeter going for gusts of 70mph in exposed places but more generally 50-60mph, could be quite interesting during the early hours especially if that short lived but intense squall line develops as modelled.
  8. Very strong winds associated with the trough pushing across Ireland, Mace Head reporting 49mph gust 74mph. These strong winds moving into the Irish Sea to affect N Wales & N England for a time, could be quite active with scattered hail & thunder and gusts towards 60mph.
  9. Yes indeed the GFS is progging gusts of 70-80mph across NW England Thursday morning, at the more extreme end of things but one to watch.
  10. Recent wind gust to 81mph on South Uist and 72mph at Stornoway - http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ Stunning satellite image showing the wrap around occlusion, a real battering coming for the far north west and later the Northern Isles.
  11. Obviously the charts will be subject to change over the coming days but taking a closer look at the UK during Friday evening then wind would be causing problems across S Scotland, E of Ireland, N England & down through Wales into the SW and right along the Channel.
  12. Now this would be a notable severe weather event for much of the UK should it come off, a real humdinger of a winter storm but I must admit it would be a very exciting one! Widespread severe gales with gales over land, heavy rain for most with a risk of blizzards & drifting snow over Northern England as some colder air gets dragged down. One to watch anyway... Another one to watch in the meantime is Thursday morning, gusts exceeding 70mph over the Isle of Man and adjacent coastal areas around Northern ireland, SW Scotland and NW England, could be a taster before the biggie on Friday!
  13. Expect some locally extreme conditions wherever that makes landfall somewhere over NW England!
  14. Nasty conditions out there now, southerly gales gusting over 50mph along with very heavy rainfall. Keep an eye on the radar some pretty active cells developing on the back of the frontal zone with sferics kicking off, that one just leaving the Dublin area has given Casemount a gust of 71mph.
  15. That'll be the Braer storm which bombed down to 914mb, January 1993. http://forum.netweat...60#entry2566404
  16. Some very active cells heading into Wales, nice squall line!
  17. Very windy and WET tonight rather than having blowing snow! Quite an active few days ahead with the main risks from heavy rainfall and very strong winds which could cause disruption in a few regions.
  18. Very windy this evening and expecting gales to develop overnight possibly touching 60mph in gusts over some western locations, pressure falling away down to 990mb coupled with some very heavy rainfall. Lots happening this week and I think Monday has the potential to be quite disruptive due to rainfall and possible damaging wind gusts.
