Imagine it differently, no Internet no social media no met office red warnings, just a forecaster sticking plastics stickers on a chart last night, imagine it happening over night no warning, then waking to see o2 roof ripped apart, holiday camp roof missing, giant old trees fallen, caravan roofs gone, trampolines in trees, power station chimneys missing, numerous fence panels down - would we all think it wasn't much and over hyped, less worry less anxiety less destruction than 1987 - I'm not so sure we would.

Grabbed an hour sleep as I did an all nighter last night and I'm shocked to wake up to so much damage locally on mu Facebook just seen the state of the o2!! It's sounding double the noise out there to an hour ago.

I wonder if the postman will be out and about? I saw a UPS driver deliver opposite, was in shorts too lol
I work for fedex, most of our drivers wear shorts even in snow lol

Having some meaty gusts here, I suppose being so close to the Thames is helping?

Better late than never however I fear it's to late to make a massive difference.. ive never seen a red warning for wind in this part of the world.
Stay safe everyone please please spread the word to family and friends to not travel unless absoultey essential!!
Going to be a very rough day and probably quite sobering later once its blown through.
This is the strongest storm in my short 28 years on this planet so far that I'm going to experience!
I actually WhatsApp my operations manager at 4am when Met office upgraded us!! He's still not read it yet though lol

I'm laying here and in the last 20 mins it's gone from earily silent to a low roar which at first I thought was a ship in the estuary but its not its more consistent, my fence panels are rattling away!!
-
Anyone awake? Been laying here in the silence then started to hear noises, fence panel we have that bangs about a bit just started to knock about and I keep hearing a very low roar in the distance - Anyone else hearing it?

The night of the great storm 87, I was 19 came home around 10pm stood with my dad in our garden I remember saying how tropical it felt, it was so warm and very quiet. Few hours later we all stood at bedroom window watching our neighbours car blow down the road as he hadn't put his hand brake on properly!! I'm 53 now and said to my partner tonight, you did put the electronic handbrake on the car didn't you lol.

Fearing the worst in the estuary/SE Essex around midday. Those coastal towns around where I am benfleet/Southend could be in trouble.
Yep I'm Canvey, have warned as many including my work however people like to "wait and see what happens" trouble is with so much false predicting of heavy snow uk set to freeze type headlines, people don't believe the genuine reports now.

If its any consolation, it stopped a while ago now and has disintegrated off the roads. It was nice whilst it was falling though but just gonna be left with load of frozen ice now.
