  1. Well in contrast I'm now in my absolute favourite time of year - May to July, the peak of daylight. The complete freedom to do things during the working week, the feeling that 7pm isn't late, the freedom to not feel unsafe cycling home from work - even if I go for a few pints first. The very idea of not liking this wonderful time of year seems crazy to me - we're programmed as a species to relish sunlight & warmth as it equals more plentiful food and easier living. Now speak to me in November when the clocks move then you'll hear misery! That trapping, lonely feeling of it being dark mid afternoon- vile!
  2. Cold, miserable and damp (a phrase said with alarming frequency recently - anyone would think it were a grim month like November!). Been raining on & off all night, min 7.3c now 7.8c raining moderately.
  3. A clear sunny morning with a min of 5.1c. Now partly cloudy 11.1c. Come on warmth come back - used far too much heating lately!
  4. Cold and miserable with a strong and biting wind. I assume someone replaced May with March! 11.1c max now 8.7c.
  5. Cold and cloudy with temps currently stuggling at 8.6c. There's some drizzle around too. Horrible conditions for May!
  6. A lovely day up to early afternoon with lots of sunshine and feeling warm in that sun. Made it to just shy of 15c. It then clouded up a bit and that nagging wind made things feel cold again. Chilly tonight now 8.5c.
  7. Sunshine! A vastly improved start with clear blue skies and lighter winds. After a low of 6.9c it's now 11.6c which already beats yesterdays max. Most pleasing as it means I can actually go outside and setup my new tomato greenhouse!
  8. Wet and miserable almost all day with a cold wind. 10.9c max. Worst weather day for a good while; hope tomorrow at least looses the rain as I want to go outside!!
  9. Crikey anyone would think it was March looking at those charts! Even looking at Spain - there's just no warm air anywhere! It's still in its winter position over Africa. Russia seems to be getting the benefits of our extended winter synoptics with southerly sourced air: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100508/00/75/h850t850eu.png Getting more desperate for warmth now as we're beginning to chop off weeks of my favourite time of year (May-July) with endless cold weather. Saying that northerlies are often sunny with dramatic cloud formations and sometimes showers although I prefer them in April rather than mid May but still!
  10. A damp and cold morning with a strong east wind. Some brightness but looks like more drizzly rain coming in the east to follow. Horrible! 9.7c after 8.6c low.
  11. As I've said before - go to Iceland! Fits in perfectly with those desires and it's also a lovely country to be in too. If I didn't like not feeling cold all the time I'd be up there myself! Do like the idea of stealing Spain's position though - shorter but still cold winters (in the interior at least) and longer, hotter summers. Longer days in winter but yes shorter days in summer - but not really a problem since they run on Euro time meaning it's still light till 9pm but just you don't waste daylight at 5am like we do! Given the current awful weather I'd do anything to change our climate for the better - today is just horrible, especially tonight.
  12. A vile cold and wet evening with a strong, cold wind. If it weren't for the fact it was still half light at 9pm you'd think it was February out there - absolutely awful conditions for May. The temptation to jet off somewhere hot & sunny getting ever stronger!
  13. I like the increase of Earth tilt - more extreme seasons with longer, summer days with sun higher but even shorter winter days. No doubt a mass extinction would follow so maybe not... I think one factor I'd like to change is to have less cloud overall. Clear skies = better weather in general!
  14. Sun finally broke through to give some brief sunny spells. Feeling very chilly in the easterly wind and right ball ache to cycle uphill against! Eagerly awaiting any sign of a pattern change as it's just too cold at the moment.
  15. Still gloomy here but don't think it'll be too long before it clears by looks of sat pics. 12.1c at the mo.
  16. Very miserably dull morning with very low light levels. Dry so far with max of 12c now falling at 11.7c. Feels like a miserable October day! ughh
  17. But without the cloud and temps of only 15c it might be lovely around lunchtime but by going home/pub time it's getting nippy so it's only really any good at weekends. That's fine for early/mid spring or autumn but in high summer I want my evenings back!
  18. Temperature wise it's 'ok' although definitely nothing special (you don't freeze when out but certainly not warm enough to sit out), dry wise - again no problem there. But the cloud is the problem - we've been getting sunshine early on (which is welcome and makes getting up so much easier) but it rapidly clouds over and stays like that all day. Almost like a reverse easterly where it starts dull and (if you're lucky) it clears later in the day. 14.5c the max now 13.8c. Very unremarkable!
  19. Grey, miserable and cool after a bright start. Only 13.3c and we can't have the windows open in the office Roll on some decent weather!
  20. That is something about 'average' weather late April/May until September - it's generally nice although not very interesting as such. The opposite being true November-Feb especially - the average is neither nice nor interesting! Outlook isn't quite so poor today - a cold slice of air right in time for bank holiday weekend (what else could you expect!) before warming to the average next week. By the middle of next week we may be staring at something completely different again - northern blocking is difficult to shift, but not impossible!
  21. Just flicked through the charts looking for some hope but was presented with a horror show of endless cool and unsettled weather. Jumping in first with Saturday and a disturbance moving in from the north west with colder air following on behind: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/51/airpressure.png http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/51/h850t850eu.png So a day of showers or longer spells of rain looks likely and feeling chilly without a doubt in the rain. Ok outside of it with maxes into the mid teens: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/51/ukmaxtemp.png Into Sunday the colder air digs in and we bring in a north-easterly. http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/75/h850t850eu.png Single figure maxes looking possible across many areas: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/75/ukmaxtemp.png NEly slackens off on Monday but still under cold air: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/99/airpressure.png http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/99/h850t850eu.png Still single figure maxima: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/99/ukmaxtemp.png Into next week the cold flow is cut off but we're looking quite far ahead now: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100429/12/123/airpressure.png After that the NEly flow is back making things chilly and grey again but we're looking into FI. A cold start to May looks likely but with high pressure and NElies around it doesn't look to be all that wet though.
  22. Rain arrived this afternoon but still mild for now. Does seem like the decent weather is about to draw to a close for a while with much cooler weather coming
  23. I'm not prepared to write off summer because of charts on 29th April but certainly this pattern can be hard to shift. But then it only take a subtle shift and everything realigns itself into a much 'better' pattern (like the holy grail of high pressure to our east). This time next week we may be on about the first heatwave - I live in hope anyway!
  24. Warm but cloudy with a bit of a breeze on. Maxed at 19.2c but now 18.7c. A very typical summer feeling day (i.e. mild but cloudy!).
  25. Yeah it's terrible - I've had to force myself not to wear a coat, not to have to put the heating on and be outside a lot more. Today I woke up to a warm house and sadly found it much easier to get up for work instead of wishing to stay in my warm bed. And the very worst bit is having to cycle home through student land and have the ordeal of seeing lots of pretty ladies in short skirts and t-shirts instead of big coats and hats (assuming I can see them at all during the darkness of winter!). Sarcasm aside... big cooldown coming but I suspect out of the wind and in the sun it'll feel pretty pleasant. High pressure nudging in so I don't see that much rain on offer but some cold nights ahead so time to crank up the heating again!
